Special thanks for the interviews and Gamasutra article regarding Skittleball. I'm just now starting to think about making for-pay games. It's really helpful to have developers who are so open about the process and pitfalls

Most of the good game developers I've worked with over the years take time out to help mentor those trying to get into the industry.
Try to attend GDC (Game Developers Conference) sometime. If money's an issue, as it usually is, apply for the IGDA Scholarships to GDC. Students who attended GDC in the past looked around the room and saw that they weren't that different from those already working in the industry. They came back inspired to finish their studies so they could pursue their dream.
