CAPCOM NOW OPEN TO BUYOUT

Capcom announced today that it will not be renewing its takeover defense, and is now open to a buyout, should a third party company buy a large enough share of Capcom stock.

Up until now, Capcom's takeover defense, which was originally instituted in 2008, has kept any company from acquiring Capcom directly through its shareholders. This method, known as a hostile takeover, is now possible following the shareholders' decision not to renew the countermeasure.

The company said it "will react to take steps to ensure disclosure of the position of the board of directors," and also make sure "there is sufficient time for shareholders to examine the proposed large-scale purchase and reach a decision."

In April, Capcom began construction on its second research and development center in Osaka, Japan after announcing a $78 million plan to expand and increase focus on internal game development. The plan also included hiring 100 new developers per year, in the hopes of having 2,500 on staff by 2022.

As for existing Capcom developers, Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono announced yesterday that he is leaving Capcom Vancouver, where he most recently worked on Dead Rising 3. Although it's unclear whether Ono is leaving Capcom completely, he did say he needed time to think about his next step.[/align:1k9i1xqy]

Yes this could get interesting! Personally I think Nintendo should jump on this. They have the money and would then have Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil, and many other great franchises all to themselves! Some people would probably complain, but if you wanted to play any of these games you would have to buy a Nintendo console.

Actually that's a great shout. Nintendo are you reading this.

Own: Jaguar, Lynx, Dreamcast, Saturn, MegaDrive, MegaCD, 32X, GameGear, PS3, PS, PSP, Wii, GameCube, N64, DS, GBA, GBC, GBP, GB,  Xbox, 3DO, CDi,  WonderSwan, WonderSwan Colour NGPC

SnakeEyes

misleading title, they are no more for sale than any other public limited company. All this means it that there are no longer protective measures in place to stop a hostile takeover.

Even if a company could buy enough shares, it would just be a majority shareholder, not the actual outright owner of the company.

As for Nintendo, yes they are one of the few gaming companies that could afford to do it, but it would take huge financial resources to do it.

That's all reviewTech right there lol...the problem with that as a business model is the containing popular franchises and being held to random to one platform would be incredible bad for business and would alienate previous Capcom supporters making them my a choice to drop Microsoft and Sony to join Nintendo exclusively if you wish to play the next Resident Evil or Street Fighter, taking away my choice to decide what platform I either own or intend to buy forcing me to get Nintendo now that would be monopoly which allot of people detest, in theory Nintendo would be starting down the path as the next Electronic Arts is they decided to buy Capcom, which I feel does not suit their business model as a games company collector.

Nintendo has a host of classic and instantly recognisable characters in its stable, I feel  hard terms like Dante and Leon Kennedy or Blanka don't fit their image for some reason, I suggest maybe Square Enix make a bid or UBIsoft, as their teams in feel would greatly widen the scope to allow them to use there expertise within the Capcom universe and list of games it has, rather than another Assassins creed or Tomb raider, imagine a Resident Evil played in the same light as Assassin creed? or tomb raider style? They could do allot, as could Konami if they invested, they've had a great run the last few years as has SEGA, imagine that lol..the world would really of gone tipsy turvy turn of events.

I hope and I'm sure someone will rescue them, but not EA or Console/games dev Nintendo , they need a company that won't exploit their franchises to the extend they become a mere shadow of their former selves they already became that after the DLC on disc stunt to indirectly caused the downfall of Capcom in the first place.

Yeah I wouldn't say they are for sale just yet.

Most likely we will see them continue to decline and when they are at their lowest value either go up for sale or begin to sell off IP by IP. Maybe they will even start selling T-Shirts, exclusive video content and get into casinos!  :30:

Just picking up on what Greyfox said, if there were a company that Campcom's IP fit well, it would be Sega IMHJO.  Problem is, they're in no position to buy them, and they don't have a console to sell exclusives for anyway.   :20:
