In the 13th century, the Cathars, who preach about good Christian beliefs, were being expelled by the Catholic Church out of the Languedoc region in France. One of them, called Jean Raymond, found an old church in which to hide, not knowing that beneath its ruins lay buried an ancient evil.

The original version of this game was an indie game for the PC released in 2010 that was clearly inspired by classic Sinclair ZX Spectrum platformers with its dark background and bright colours. In fact the the gameplay was directly inspired by Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy. You can download the PC original by Locomalito Games HERE!

Now the game has come home to the machine that inspired it with this wonderful homebrew conversion by World Of Spectrum member Dark Horace. Programming this title was not without problems, it went through not one, but 3 different engines with 2 of them being abandoned (apparently it's a loooong story!). The last one for final version was created by Jerri, who also did the music and sound effects! The authors gave them sources from the game maker project but, of course, a game maker project can't be converted in ZX code.

L'Abbaye Des Morts can now be downloaded for free to play on emulators or real hardware and they have even created a very swanky cassette inlay for you to use! You can read about the development of the game over in the thread on WOS and you can also watch a video of this superb game in action below!
