You may not agree but I have to vote G-Loc as its the only one I own/have played a lot apart from some hazy memory of Space Harrier Arcade and some experimentation of Outrun roms on my old Xbox.

I always enjoyed Power Drift (arcade) the most because it felt like riding a roller coaster.

edit: I say arcade because I never played it at home. Was Power Drift available on Genesis/MD or Saturn?

Who voted other and what game did I miss out?  :o

Well you don't have Afterburner  or Space Harrier II.

Did some searching there is also Air Bike Cop
Game Over: Air Bike Cop

Well After Burner II is just an enhanced version of the original game so no point putting the first one, same with Galaxy Force.

You are right about Space Harrier II though!

Antiriad2097

Space Harrier II isn't a Super Scaler game though, its a Mega Drive game.

Which is why I have to opt for the original game as my fave from those available.

I thought so but I couldn't remember if there was also an arcade version too and haven't had the chance to check.

I forgot about A.B. Cop though, that was a great game!

I wonder what the specs are for super scaler boards.  What is the maximum number of sprites?  Fillrate? Are they frame buffered or rendered per scanline?

Aaendi

From the information I looked up, board Y renders scaling sprites onto a frame buffer, and the whole frame buffer image gets rotated, and then gets overlaid with another layer of scaling sprites.  Apparently sprites can't be rotated individually, only as a large group.  This is what I call clever technical engineering.  It makes it look like the system is computing more than it really is.

Interesting . . .

I am always fascinated at the different ways hardware is exploited and used. On the Atari Lynx for example you can basically build the whole screen out of hardware sprites and then scales and rotate them as you wish, STUN Runner is a great example of this technique.
