The Mega Drive is such a great machine for shoot 'em ups, so here are a few more that you should be considering. As before I am going to give you 1 vertical shoot 'em up and 1 horizontal, both worthy of a place in your cart slot.

First up is Arrow Flash, I am actually surprised that I haven't mentioned this one yet given my fondness for the game. I was a game I pretty much picked up because it was cheap and was pleasantly surprised by it. Not only does it have some really nice graphical effects and engaging gameplay but it also has the difficulty set just right, unlike many other MD shooters. You can read a more in depth review of it HERE!

Verytex is a game that I still don't own but one that is definitely on my shopping list. Before my Dingoo died this  was one of the games I used to play the most on it, not exactly sure why but I guess it's just very easy to pick up and play. It's a very typical vertically scrolling affair with some decent graphics and nice bosses but the stand out feature really is the music, Verytex has some very impressive pieces of FM music.

So what about soldier shoot 'em ups? You know the ones where you are a guy on foot like Commando, Ikari Warriors and Gunsmoke - yes them! The Mega Drive also got a few of these and some incredibly good ones too.

The first game I am going to mention is Mercs, it's the sequel to Commando and contains very similar gameplay. But it adds lots of new weapons, power-ups and some monster bosses. Although the similarity to Commando is easy to see, Mercs really is a whole new game that adds so much more to the whole experience. What is even better about the MD game is that as well as a near perfect conversion of the arcade game we also get a brand new MD exclusive version, on the same cart! The lack of 2-player is a let down but this is still one of the best ga,es on the machine:

Undeadline takes quite a different approach to other games of this type by being fantasy themed. Instead of army men, tanks and bunkers we have wizards, gargoyles and all sorts of other mythical monsters. Undeadline is also famous for not only being very hard but also being one of the rarest games on the machine with original copies often fetching hundreds of pounds. It was only ever released in Japan too, making it that bit more exclusive.

Well, you are still shooting.  I don't see why not.  Both of those are good examples as well.  :)
