Some quality shooters there and a couple i havent even played

Interesting list of games.  Some of those must be rare games based on the prices I'm seeing on ebay!

There are quite a few on this list that I don't have so I will need to seek them out. Gynoug has to be my favourite shooter on the MD and Thunderforce II is actually my favourite game in the series, I love the overhead levels. There are quite a few games that I would mention.

As far as vertical shooters go then these two are both great. Xenon 2 might be on quite a few other systems too but its one of the best western made attempts at the genre without doubt. While Vapor Trail is a great conversion of the fairly obscure Data East coin-op that has some of the best music on the MD:

And for horizontal shoot 'em ups the first one I want to mention is Air Buster (also known as Aero Blasters) because of the excellent 2-player mode, not something you find on games of this type that often. The second game I will mention in this category is Bio Hazard Battle, I love the whole theme of the game, it's also 2-player and it has some superb visuals to boot:

Does anyone have this one?  M.U.S.H.A?  It seems to be an extremely rare shooter for the system...

Yes, I happen to have a near mint CIB copy of this! A great shooter as well.  :113:

If I could trade it straight up for another near mint CIB of something equally awesome I'd probably do it, like Harvest Moon SNES for example.

TrekMD

Consider me jealous!  That is not an easy game to find and it gets a lot of $$$/£££!

I don't have Musha Aleste but I have played it, it's a good game but not as great as a lot of people make it out to be.

The sequel for the Mega CD, Robo Aleste, is the much better game, and I have that  :8:

I have Robo Aleste as well.  It is an excellent game indeed!

Another vertically scrolling Mega Drive shoot 'em up that I picked up recently and really enjoyed is Darwin 4081. It's a conversion of a Data East arcade game and actually one of the very first games to come out for the MD in Japan. It might not look the best but it's got really solid gameplay.

Another horizontally scrolling shooter worth mentioning is Empire Of Steel (otherwise known as Steel Empire), it doesn't get talked about much and it probably should be because it's damn good. I especially like the way you can choose between a more traditional plane and an armoured airship!

That Steel Empire looks pretty cool with the unique designs of the ships.

Ha, I was just going to talk about Steel Empire, but saw Laird posted a video already.  8)
It doesn't have a fast, twitch gameplay that many of the good shmups have on Genesis, in fact I would say it's a rather long, drawn-out affair, with slow ships that take a looooong time to power up.

I guess what I like about it is the steampunk inspired enemies and level designs. I find the game to be pretty easy actually, and you get to choose your ship at the beginning of each level, making it easier for you since you can take the best ship for the job ahead. One is like a quick little biplane, the other a slow lumbering zeppelin with more firepower. The game is very straightforward, I don't even think there's any secrets to speak of.

In terms of shmups, there's nothing really special about it, but it's definitely a fun time to go through it and enjoy the scenery.

Good thread this. Don't have many MD games so it's good to see these interesting looking shmups.

I only have TF IV, Raiden Trad, and this little gem..
