Worst Video Game Music

How a game sounds is important for me. A good soundtrack not only makes a game memorable, but can really help you get "in the zone" when playing.

However, sometimes game music is just unbearable. This really started to happen in the 90's with CD-based systems introducing "real world" music into games. Which is a horrible idea as not everyone likes the same kind of music and eventually you end up playing something with music that you just can't stand.

Here are some examples of things that I couldn't stand.

From Animorphs: Shattered Reality (PS1)

Music from Animorphs: Shattered Reality - Place To Dwell

This was my face while playing:

From Buck Bumble (N64)   :102:

I also never played F-Zero GX for more than a minute because I couldn't stand the music.

I'm sure some will disagree and will hate some of my favourite soundtracks too, but that's why game music should just be proper old chip-tune style game music.

What games can't you stand listening to?

It's cool to look at the other end of the spectrum.  We've been looking at good music on various games and systems.  I have to say that I could not care less about the music for Crazy Taxi.  The music for Animorphs, while not the best thing out there, is at least something I can listen to.

Brilliant idea for a thread! I too am not a fan of some of this more modern music in games and I hate the Crazy Taxi music too, give me a good chip tune anyday.

But that said there are some terrible chip tunes too:

I have always hated the music on Ninja Gaiden 3:

Sucking at Ninja Gaiden III for Lynx

That is the Lynx version I grew up with but recently found out that the NES version is just as bad.

Vyothric

Ha, that's almost so bad it's brilliant. Very abstract  :21:

Reminds me of how I felt when I heard the music from Death Crimson on the Saturn.

Death Crimson Music - Scene 1"サロニカの町"

I still don't quite know what to make of it.

TrekMD

I need to see an ENT specialist to have  my ears fixed after hearing that last video.  It was the death of my ears!

Wow that death crimson tune, is like a jazz melody been played with an out of tune harmonica , omg its a diarrhoea dumb in both ears..

It is official I am tone death!  :113:

You mean, you are tone deaf, right?   :21:

:24:  I do not know sometimes I feel dead. Maybe I am a zombie. Been playing a lot of 2600 Pac-Man lately.

onthinice

I enjoy 2600 Pac-Man for the beeps and boops.

Greyfox

Well after those audio atrocities rather than listen to them again, I'd rather tell the wife I love her! :77:

Maybe he's some sort of comic book villain who can kill people by singing.

It's strange but I can't remember any terrible game music, only good stuff and of course the bland, forgettable ones. I find that weird as I'm a big lover of game music, CD soundtracks and all that stuff. Maybe I've just been lucky  :21:

[align=center:24kgrnic]I know it's the Atari 2600, a machine not exactly renowned for its sound chip but . . . .

Acid Drop (Atari 2600)[/align:24kgrnic]

Vyothric

The music from the 8-Bit versions of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

It's like they intentionally played all the wrong notes.
