Atari Age member idavis has released the latest version of his sudoku game. He had certain criteria when he started this little project. Inspired by the likes of Doug Neubauer and Star Raiders he wanted to keep this within an 8K limit. His initial goal was for the Atari to generate a valid sudoku puzzle on its own and do it in under 8k. Please also do not think that he is in any way comparing himself to Doug, or his game to Star Raiders. They are a hyperspace across the galactic map in comparison. His sheer amazement of what was accomplished in 8K was the sole factor in his goal and so far that has been a success. His original Atari 800 was able to generate a valid sudoku puzzle in under 8k worth of code. He also set himself a goal of doing it all in assembler.
His mission was successful and he created a fully working program and that's the main thing. If you want to solve a sudoku puzzle that was generated by your very own 8-bit Atari, then this is your chance. He has also written up some instructions and notes on the game. There will also be more updates to come as he is not putting this to bed just yet. He hope to one day put this onto a cartridge, but in the mean time you can download the game for free to play on real hardware via a flashcart or on your favourite emulator.
