[size=140]But they also released a proper handheld games console too called the Systema 2000:[/size]



[size=140]It was a licenced version of a German handheld called the Hartung Game Master, thought to be the only console ever developed in Germany. It has around 20 games that are pretty much all clones of other popular games and the machine was a massive failure.

Anyone here own one?

wow - that's a rare beast - not heard of that.   

Strange that Germany has produced so little in the video game field, considering it leads the world in many other manufacting fields.   Guess they were happy with the Amiga!

The ST I believe was the main machine over there and in the 8-bit years they had the Schneider CPC, an official licensed version of the Amstrad machine.

i read they had an arcade machine in East Germany with a wood finish based on hunting (as Erich Honecker liked to hunt).  There might even have been one at the Game On exhibition.

64x64 screen in black and white?...does not sound to exciting to me.
Though at 49 pounds, for someone who wants it, not bad....that's if the bid
does not go any higher.

For those that don't read the recent purchases thread, I ended up buying the Systema 2000 that Amiga Jay linked and I got it earlier this week.

I couldn't get it to work with rechargeables and the unit was absolutely filthy. Not only was it caked in dirt and grime but the battery compartments were all corroded from leakage.

Today I gave it a really good clean and bought a set of cheap batteries and after several attempts I got it to work!

I only have one game right now, Falling Block, but as luck would have it I found somebody in Greece of all places selling a brand new boxed copy of Hyper Space for just £6! There is also another a copy of Space Castle for sale too from a seller in Germany but 50 Euros plus postage is a bit rich for me. Falling Block, as you probably guessed, is just Tetris but it's a pretty decent version with the Russian Waltz playing in the background.

From the looks of that screen, it's no surprise it never went anywhere.

I just like obscure consoles, I am really interested to see more games on this thing.

The screen blur is really bad though, far worse than the original Game Boy
