Laser Disc Gems

OK, this may be a short topic, but I didn't know whether to post in the Dragon's Layer thread and derail, so here we go. I never got into Dragon's Layer or Space Ace, but this game was one I thoroughly enjoyed for a time around 1984:

That looks different.  So this game integrates the animation from games like Dragon's Lair with raster graphics?

I don't know about raster graphics. More like sprites overlayed onto LD backdrops. It had a space shooter feel and followed the storyline of some Japanimation series I was none too familiar with. I will also say that whoever played the game in that youtube clip is none too good. My recollection of that first level was to shoot the blocks with your lasers (which the player in the clip has not a clue about) and rescue the falling people to get to level 2. I also remember getting additional shooters beside you ala Galaga by rescuing the falling people.

That's cool.  There one laser game I haven't seen mentioned, Brain Dead 13.  It got ported to several systems.

So was the means of playing that game to move the main character around the hedge maze and avoiding the gargoyles via joystick/d-pad? One thing I didn't get about many of the LD games was that there seemed to be a lag. Like, move your controller in a direction and then wait for an animated scene to play. Only it looked like more fluid motion than that in that clip.

That particular game has less of the lag typical of laserdisc games.  Brain Dead 13 also appears to be very polarizing.  Some people like it, other just plain hate it.

Bega's Battle looks really neat. Reminds me of the old Battle of the Planets/G-Force cartoons.
I only remember Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. Those were seen at a Show Biz Pizza Place which was later bought out by Chuckie Cheese.

Not a laser disc. But I have this for the 3DO. Fun little adventure game. It does tend to lean on the slow side of action at times.

Agreed, it has far less lag and seems a little bit more interactive too. It's not great but it's a darn sight better than Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.

That's really cool! Fire Fox was one of my favorite movies as a kid but I never knew about this game.

I can see Shadowrunner as a kid tearing up the Canadian countryside pretending to be Clint Eastwood. Of course actual Soviet agents were probably after him for intercepting secret messages on his short wave radio.
