I remember the first time I saw Dragon's Lair in the arcade at my local Odeon cinema, I was utterly blown away by. But when I finally played it I was very disappointed to find out it had very little gameplay. I still loved watching other people play it though in hope I could see somebody finish it, I never did!

Well now you can watch all 3 of Cinematronics classic Laser Disc games all the way through thanks to the wonder of the internet:

[align=center:fralwi8g]01 Dragon's Lair (1983) complete gameplay

03 Dragon's Lair II (1991) complete gameplay

02 Space Ace (1984) complete gameplay[/align:fralwi8g]

Greyfox

Yep! I was pretty shocked too!

Wow, they are surprisingly short!  I guess they were so hard to play that it made them seem much longer.  It's cool to see a complete video for the games, though.

It is nice to see the complete play of these games. I only ever played the arcade version of Dragon's Lair. Space Ace was and still gets played on the 3DO. Graphics are no comparison to the arcade but I liked the Commodore 64 versions of Dragon's Lair and Dragon's Lair II.

Shadowrunner

I remember seeing Dragon's Lair in the arcades but I don't think I ever tried it. It looked great and I had no idea what the gameplay was like so when the Sega CD version came out I quickly bought it. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed when I got the game home and tried it out. I traded it in shortly after and I don't think I've ever played it since, I do have the Jag CD version now but it just sits on the shelf.

I remember when Dragon's Lair first appeared at the local pizza shop. My friends and I worked together to memorize the moves and timing cues for each scene... calling out a 'left right left up' style reminder to help each other as each scene started. It took a little trial & error but I think each of us could eventually 1cc the game. I never bothered learning Space Ace or any of the other laserdisc games... for me, the genre started and ended with Dragon's Lair.

I played to the end of Dragon's Lair 3D on the Gamecube too. Earlier console adaptations were horrible, but Gamecube/PS2/xbox were finally powerful enough to offer a cel shaded 3D action game that 'matched' the arcade animations. Not a spectacular game, but major bonus points for the nostalgia factor.

At least the death scenes are amusing.  One does get to see them plenty of times playing these games!  LOL

 :21: Nice one, TrekMD!

The sad thing is that you get pretty much the exact same amount of gameplay sitting here and watching these on Youtube as you would playing these in an actual arcade. I mean, to be fair, they're fantastic to watch. There's just not a lot of value in these beyond that.

Too bad Bluth never made a movie or something out of these to flesh out the settings and characters a bit. He pretty much went insane in the 90's, it seems, and then we got stuff like this.

Now THERE'S a character I'd like to see die about 50 times.

TrekMD

More than this character?

Come on, man, Don Bluth already made enough crap after the 80's. Let's not go blaming him for stuff that wasn't his fault. :P

...At least, I don't THINK that was his fault...
