Well here is another one from The Guardian newspaper in the UK[/size]

Shadowrunner

Not a bad list, but personally I would replace the Amiga with an Atari 7800. The Amiga isn't really a console for one, plus anyone who's just getting into retro gaming should see where it all started and with the 7800 you can play the 2600 games too.

Yeah, I face palmed when I saw the Amiga - it's a bloody computer not a console.

You can tell it's a British list, no NES!  :4:

I was thinking 2600 but 7800 is probably better for the reasons you stated, if less recognisable.

I wouldn't have had the Game Cube on the list either, far too recent and the Wii can play GC games.

I agree with Shadowrunner.  What the heck is a computer doing in a list for consoles?!  The 7800 would be a nice choice indeed.

Going to the final frontier, gaming...

On another forum somebody suggested the Neo Geo should be there, after thinking about that is a great shout. As the person pointed out, it was an arcade system in the home and has a lot of really high quality games that play just as well today as they ever did.

Carlos

I agree, WTF is a computer, a good one at that doing being crowbarred into a list like that?

The article should be called 'The six things I played games on when I was a boy.' Surely the CD32 would be a better shout and give some credence to the 'console' moniker in his title. :26:

Shocking.

Also do you think it was originally 10 before he ran out of time? or were there really only 6 that stood out to him do you think?

I think also he was trying to include the feel of the console as well as the games that it could play, so the wii, although being a good NES or GC emulator, would not give the experience he was evaluating for his piece.

So he could have had 8 or nine in his list as this would apply to 2600 and 7800 machines.

Here are my top 6 cars.

1)BMX, okay its not a car but it was form of transport great eh readers?

would you??

I would be willing to bet that it was the 6 machines he owned when he was younger as there was very little valid reasoning for his picks.

Atari st and amiga is nearly for dump due to split of user groups. Soo many different incompatible devices that it is hard to tell which version was the best for playing. Thats why the prize of such devices is less han 25 dollar. The amiga 1000 is worth to collect but most likely less is running on them due too limitations. Bad as it was a real nice device.

The atari 2600 is much better than 7800 due to nicer design and output quality. Play 2600 games on atari 7800 and you will prefer native atari 2600 woodgrain or darth vader. The junior has a much better video signal but less retro feeling (except silver, black version).

There's not a single 8-bit system on that list!

No Atari, no Intellivision, no Vectrex, no Coleco, no O2/Videopac - for crying out loud, not even an NES!!

 :24:

What a ridiculous list.

like most of you...no NES! who the hell writes this list?

Judging by the comments, many, many people were pissed off by the lack of depth/reasoned argument. I was pleased to see the Atari Jaguar mentioned. This sort of reporting is never going to be very good since the whole gaming scene both past and present is very complex. Some consoles did well because of the game support, some because of clever marketing. I see some here mentioned the NeoGeo and I personally remember the buzz about that machine - expensive but bloody good, especially for the fighting games. Ergo, some machines have a niche following but are still worthy of mention because they brought something new to the fore at that time.
For the record, Alien verses Predator on the Atari Jaguar holds a Guinness World Record!

To remove any awkwardness, I have mesothelioma. I don’t seek sympathy, just acceptance. Thanks
