Atari Age users ieposta and Byte Knight are currently working on another version of the venerable Donkey Kong for the Atari 2600 titled DK Arcade 2600. This title is different from Donkey Kong VCS and it is being done using Batari Basic.  As you can see, this version does not use vertical scrolling to create the entire playing field.

Check out the images and videos below for this port that is also excellent.  The original thread along with binary files is located here:  DK Arcade 2600. Progress files. Source code. Help appreciated.

Looks pretty good so far, Kong seems to have put on weight though!  :4:

TrekMD

LOL  At least he looks like Kong and not the Gingerbread Man!

It is amazing what programmers are getting the 2600 to do these days!

TrekMD

Just a quick update on this.  The final demo of this game has been released.  Check the development thread (link on first post) for the binaries.

This looks great, and I am glad the programmer decided against the vertically scrolling screen and flat girders. How soon will this be available for sale?

TrekMD

Well, this is one of two different versions.  The other one does have flat girders and vertical scrolling for all the levels.  No word on when/if this will be sold.
