If you thought the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were expensive then check out some of these eye watering launch prices. This graphics shows the cost of each console at launch, in US dollars, adjusted for inflation to show what it would cost you today!

No surprise to see the 3DO and NeoGeo at the top but still cool to see this  :)

Looking at the VCS and INTV, it is no mystery as to why I waited three years after launch to get one. I still remember new VCS games priced at $40 in 1979. Gaming that was out of reach financially for the longest time.

That also brings to mind the issue of people who paid high prices for dud games back then. At those prices, especially for the Data Age VCS titles, it is no wonder the crash happened after all.

The price of the Intellivision was the one that shocked me the most  :13:

Heck, both the Intellivision and the 2600 really were pricey for their time!

Would early consoles would be expensive as they were 'new tech' then later as things became more common ie chips the prices would drop, unless its some sort of custom chip beast ala 3d0, Gamecube is my surprise as its a fantastic little (literally!) console and dirt cheap. Really must get around to buying another.....
