Is it a proper retro event?

There's a main hall stuffed full of loads of retro machines.  It's mainly retro - there is usually a small modern section, which a couple of years ago featured Xboxes running Skyrim.  Overwhelming it is retro themed.  The Replay guys run it(Mohican Kid, Boggyb68, Sir Clive, Joey, etc.).

I'm still debating it.  It looks like Frank Gasking and TMR are going as well.  Also, Video Game Carnival will be there.

Geek 2014 was a strange affair. The main hall was much the same as last year with console after console just two glaring omissions, no cans and no pins, sorry there were two cabs one switched of the other with flappy bird on it. The reason that I heard for said omissions was because of complaints about a lack of Mindcraft! Make of this what you will. I find it odd that more multi carts, everdrives etc aren't used or at least games switched during the day. I got there around 10am and left at 10:30pm and there's only some many times you can play the same games.
I don't get all the 360 and xboxone action, a friend kept playing on them, he could of just stayed at home.
Handhelds were kept to a minimum and really it was only old grandstand etc that got an outing. No gameboys, lynx, GG etc what a shame.
Sellers only amounted to two stalls but had some awesome stuff if you like imports. Oh and the bead guy from Revival was there with his awesome bead things.
No real talks, some delivered by DVD projected, then there were some odd stands like one doing something with popcorn?
As a day it's always fun to be able to go out and game with your mates and new people. For the new people it's good to be able to explore the wealth of machines on display but I feel it just misses something for the seasoned collector/gamer, that something that Revival seamlessly delivers.

Thanks for the lowdown, I have to say it didn't seem that exciting from the pics I have seen.

Seen a lot of people moaning about the lack of thought towards the hardcore and the over compensation for the family/newbie. Would have been nice to see some homebrew too. They had an indie section so why not homebrew? Puzzling.

Isn't GEEK aimed at the family and random visitor market though?

It supposed to be a Play Expo for the south.

I think geek confuses itself. They want to appeal to all but find the balance impossible. It say young old girl boy techie or not. I met the lady who runs it but then you see play expo everywhere so not sure if it's a too many cooks issue. Like I said before revival in my opinion catered for everyone and didn't disappoint.
