Let's look at the SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color!  Yes, there was a color Neo Geo Pocket as well as a monochromatic one.  Here is a review of that system for your viewing pleasure!

Cool looking handheld. Wonder if it really could be linked to a DreamCast?

AmigaJay

Yeah there was a DC link cable, I used to have a NGPC site way back when, Neo-geo.com used my game info for their master lists after I closed it down.
Great little handheld, 100x better screen than the awful GBC one and battery life was amazing too! Thumb stick too was great, shame it never lasted longer, never got the support it deserved, both the Wonderswan and Neogeo pocket color were better than the GBC but again that's what marketing does for you.

I somehow ended up getting one of these things for Christmas one year, but for whatever reason, the only game I ever had for it was Sonic Pocket Adventure. Not that I minded, because Pocket Adventure was great. Original? Not really. Fun? I'd say so. It's a shame I never ended up getting SNK VS Capcom, because if you had that and Metal Slug: 2nd Mission, I'd say you'd be all set.

Rogue Trooper

:-[

I bought one, brand new (Blue model) with following games (carts only):

Puzzle Link 2, King Of Fighters R2, Neo Turf Masters, Puzzle Link, Pac-Man and Fatal Fury Contact.

To my eternal shame, never even tested it, not even took it out the box, could be anything in there.

Bought during a mini-collecting phase i soon passed through, but somehow just cannot part with it.

Looks like another good handheld that didn't get the support it deserved.  A shame.

I have the NGP-DC linkup cable and it's still CIB. I've not tried using it yet though.  <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/17.gif" alt=":17:" title="17" />

Here's a video someone made about it -

I have one of these as you can see from my collection thread. I really love the clicks you get from the joystick. Super system.

Never knew about the Sega connection. Nice video!

Rogue Trooper

Seems it was quite popular in UK:

Talking of SNK closing it's Neo Geo division and knock-on effects, Robbie Phillips (UK MD of SNK Europe at the time):

'The saddest part of this news is that the Neo Geo is the best handheld on the market and has a loyal following of hardcore gamers.we've all worked hard to establish the platform in a short space of time and it's a pity that we never really got a chance to show what the brand could do with real support'

Seems there was to be an MP3 player launched for the device as well.

Apparently in last 3 months of Dec'99 in UK alone, Neo Geo Pocket Colour had sold 30,000 units and 120,000 games.

onthinice

Pretty respectable numbers for such a short time frame.

AmigaJay

Yeah sickens me that crap like the gbc got more recognition and support.

NGPC is one of my favorite handhelds. Almost every game in the library is well made.

Here's a summary of the games/features accessible with the Dreamcast  NGPC link cable:

There was also a NGPC  NGPC link cable and most of the fighting games and puzzle games supported 2 players on linked systems.

Couple pics of my NGPC collection...

Nice! Still one of my biggest regrets selling my ngpc set, had all uk releases bar pocket reversi and 12-13 jap games.
Still glad Europe got the clam cases instead of the awful u.s cardboard boxes!
