MK 2? Hmm, toughie. Both versions look and animate very similarly while the MD's sound chip lets it down again, but still. I don't know tbh, I'm gonna sit on the fence here and say its a draw.

To the contrary, I'd say it was very fair indeed!

Uh, I think you misread me, because I said I didn't pick Mortal Kombat 1 BECAUSE of that reason.

Alien 3 - easy win for the Mega Drive. Have played both and it's superior in every way.

MK2 - Win for the MD again, but close one. MD version just seems to be a lot more fluid and have better controls.

Nope, I read your reasoning perfectly well. I simply didn't agree with it.

For the record, blood and guts aside, I think the SNES version of MK1 was superior to the MD version. Iirc wasnt all the gore etc unlockable anyway?

No all of it, it also had moves missing too like Scorpion's harpoon move. MD version had better controls too IMO.

I remember playing both, but admittedly it's a bit hazy now lol. But my clearest memory was how inferior the MD version was graphically and sonically, especially the animation. Not the case with MK2 though, not judging by YouTube anyway.

Not a big fan of MK. I remember the hype at release time. Thankfully, the Snes did get a good version of MKII. Genesis/MD games always seem superior over Nintendo's versions, when faster gameplay is a factor.

As far as I recall, the SNES version is actually pretty close to the arcade, in terms of sound and most of the graphics. Besides the whole blood thing, however, the controls feel a lot stiffer, which really kills any real enjoyment.

(Fun fact: The 32X version of MK2 has almost all of the missing speech of the arcade version, more detailed graphics, AND Matt Furniss's soundtrack. I'd call it the best out of all the cartridge versions, but who has a 32X? :P)

I own Mortal Kombat II for it too. I see from the back of the box that it's a 32meg cartridge.

For me Alien 3 wins on the SNES, the ambiance, animation, music and SFX are better, aliens scream like aliens! There are more varied missions also.

MKII, I have both versions and the SNES one is closer to the arcade graphically and in gameplay, also sounds way better, in the MD version it don't even say ""character name" wins"... most of the combos are made cornering the opponent and there are also bugs like Kitana combo.

Game comparison:

BTW, the japanese SNES version of MKII has censure and the fatalities are B/W!!

Sega did a great job on the 32X, the best game on the console IMO and much closer to the arcade than the MD one.

With MKI there's no comparison, Nintendo failed enormously not adding blood in a game based on gore, period.
Don't be surprised, my broken English is legendary!

I agree! I have not played the 32X version much, but it is a nice version.

What about Captain America & The Avengers?

TrekMD

Hmm, choosing between these two is not easy.  I prefer the look of the game on the SNES but I prefer the sound on the MD.  At least the games are the same game, so the comparison can be more direct.
