I haven't played the MD version, one of this days I will buy it. I think the SNES version is a bit slow compared to newer updates and also has some censure. :)

The bad thing about the Amiga/ST versions of Another World is that are way easier and if I remember correctly the console ports (MD/SNES) have two extra levels.

This game is only a bit repetitive when you know what to do, and even then I don't feel it is... The first time I completed it (SNES) I felt really satisfied and also a bit sad as I would have loved to have at least 10 more levels. Is one of the best games I ever played with awesome ambiance and perfect sound, a work of art that I'm eager to play on the Jaguar.

Never played the SNES version but the Mega Drive version looks much nice to me graphically.

Let's take a look at one more game on both systems:  Prince of Persia.

This will take some time. I remember trying it on the Sega CD. Not sure if it was released or a demo. Nice looking game.

A close call, from a YouTube perspective anyway. Graphically, the MD looks the better version, the prince is more fluid and the general standard of the levels is nicer. Although the SNES levels vary better. Sonically, it's a no brainer with the SNES winning easily imo, the MD music is horrible! Playability wise the SNES comes across as the better game, being longer and with a better finale.

So yeah, overall I would say the SNES is the better of the two.

Prince Of Persia has always been about the stunning visuals and they are much better on the Mega Drive version. I also prefer the sound on the MD version too, so that one is my winner!

The MD version of PoP sounds abysmal compared to the majesty of the SNES version. I'm not a fan of the MD sound - all the games sound the same to me - like a bluebottle buzzing in a tin box. It does have a certain charm though and really it all comes down to what you grew up with I suppose.

The SNES version of this game in particular  ,like most of the Konami SNES games on that console, is magnificent. The animation on MD version looks like it runs a bit faster - not necessarily smoother though.  The MD animation of the cut scene at the start is laughable - Jaffar looks like has only the use of one of his legs.

I'm pretty sure the SNES version has slightly extended levels and some extra ones too. Let's me honest though - they are both pretty good implementations..I completed the SNES version back in the day but I would have no issues playing the MD version.

This is a hard one... Along with Budokan it was one of the first games I played on a PC (286 IIRC) at a friends home and I have great memories of the animation in particular, even in the GB version was great.

I like more the graphics on the MD but the sound, oh man, the scream when the prince falls down the stairs in the intro is pitiful... At least there aren't explosions! :21: There are few games on this console with better sound than the SNES when comparing the same titles. It's also faithful to the original in level design and I love the original.

The SNES version has extended levels, you start with 120 minutes instead of 60, and sounds way better.

The animation in both is nice, the MD one is faster but in this game it does not matter.

One version has what the other doesn't (extended levels aside) so it's a draw for me.

I need to pick both as it has been ages since I played them...

For me this is more of a toss up because they each have something I like over the other.  Personally, I feel the graphics on the MD version are better than the graphics on the SNES (not that SNES has bad graphics).  Sound, however, has to go to the SNES.  I'm edging toward the SNES because I prefer the intro but the reality is that I can't declare a winner.  I've never played either version, so that may have to do with it.

That was awesome!

OK, so let's continue our own comparisons...  Here we now have Alien 3!

The Snes version has a really nice intro. Sound and music is a plus as well. At the 3 minute 30 second mark, who are the guys just leaning over the rails in the background? They on a coffee break?

Wow!!!! Sega version lacks in music but makes up for the machine gun sounds and faster gameplay.

Sega for the win!

TrekMD

I'm with ice on this one.  The Sega Genesis/MD version is much better.  No question the SNES intro is very nice but the game itself is better on the Sega console.

I know I'm kind of late, but I still maintain that the SNES version of Aladdin is the better game. Yes, the Genesis version is pretty. Prettier than the SNES version, we can't deny that. But with the Genesis version, you have to deal with the floaty controls, the weird hit detection, the often brutal difficulty level, and the inferior music.

As for Aliens... hmm. I have to admit I like the music in the Genesis version better, because Matt Furniss. The actual gameplay, however, looks like it's a lot less linear in the SNES version, which is interesting. From watching the two videos, I'm going to put my vote towards the SNES version, and maybe come back to revise my vote after giving both of them a shot.

Actually, here's a question. Mortal Kombat II. SNES, or Genesis/MD? You decide! (Mortal Kombat 1 isn't getting a vote because.... well. It wouldn't really be remotely fair, would it?

The Super Nintendo version has more speech and more detailed graphics, but I'm not big on the music. It sounds so faint and... echo-y, for lack of a better word.

The Genesis/MD version gets my personal vote. Again, Matt Furniss. There's less speech, sure, and the graphics aren't quite as nice, but I'd also say the controller on the Gen/MD goes with this game better.

Crusto

I agree with bob here, judging by YouTube I think the Snes version of alien 3 seems superior. The MD version looks ok, but no really in the same league in terms of quality.
