Atari Age user bongomeno has created a new homebrew titel for the 2600.  The game is called Space Tanks.  You can find the original thread here:  Space Tanks - a two player adventure.  The game is meant to be played by two players simultaneously.  From the original thread:

In the game, two players should attempt to maneuver a space tank around an enemy planet while looking for a cell that is holding prisoners of war. One player controls the tank and the other controls a crosshair. The crosshair (missile0) is used to shoot enemies when fire is pressed. The player controlling the tank is responsible for mobility, but may also check the HUD by pressing fire. There are three types of enemies in the game including infantry, bladesaucers, and bulldozers. Every once in a while, enemies will drop keycards when killed. Three keycards must be collected before you can rescue the POWs. Shield and ammo upgrades will also randomly be available in some areas. The goal is to keep killing and surviving and exploring until three keys are found, then go to the pow cell and touch it. More ammo and most likely shielding will be needed, so exploration is important.

Interesting idea, I like the co-op aspect of it!

Yes, it is definitely a nifty idea.  I suppose one person could play it if the two joysticks could be held in place together.
