Quote from: "Shadowrunner"Rather then clutter up the Artcade thread I thought I would post here instead. Maybe an Admin can move the last few posts from that thread into this one?

Anyway, I've backed quite a few of these now, and I'm pretty much at the point where I don't want to back any more. This isn't a shot against Tim from the Artcade project, he's been very honest and open about the process and the problems, and I completely understand.

The problem is that just about every one of these I've backed has encountered some kind of problem. From delays in the project being finished, to delays in shipping , to having to pay more money after the fact for shipping cause the creators didn't calculate it properly. These things just never seem to go smoothly, no matter how much planning they did before hand.

The Ouya is a prime example for me. I'll freely admit that my impression of it was soured before I even received it just because of how poor a job the creators did with the shipping and communication. I didn't get mine until after it was on sale in stores and their excuses just didn't cut it for me.

Another one I backed was for a game for the Dreamcast, and the Kickstarter edition was supposed to be exclusive and not available anywhere else. After being delayed for well over a year it was finally finished, and the "exclusive" edition was up on their website for anyone to buy!

I feel most people involved in these are genuine and really aren't out to screw people over, but there's also some people who start these projects and as soon as the money is in their account completely forget how it got there. I have heard of lawsuits being filed against people who didn't end up finishing the project after they had the money, but I have no idea if they were successful or not. As far as getting your money back through paypal, there's a deadline for disputes and if it's after that you're pretty much out of luck. Basically it just seems like you have to put a lot of faith into the project creator and hope for the best, and I don't think I can do that any more.

After reading into your concerns I completely see were your coming from on this and don't blame you for you prospective on these kick starters..but I personally feel it all boils down to logistics in execution and delivery, Tim has actually had no control over the outcome on his product to the tune on a third party who agreed to be capable of delivering his promise to you all which has turned out to be a dodgy printer, remember it wasn't them that made the promise or the ones now looking up shit creek without a paddle, it's Tim. They can pull the plug and said, sorry get your self another printer..they have him to ransom and it's a disgrace that so called professional business operate like this, but they do and don't give a hoot!!!.. even if there is thousands involved.

The risk in doing this is the fact that this can happen and does happen, Backers take the leap of faith in order to help something that they want realized and in there hands where time, money and competence allows it and fingers crossed it all goes well and happens the way it was planned, but when you look at it, this all applies to the same if you have backers funding it or funding it yourself with your own money, these risks all still applies, the only different is your doing it with other peoples money, but again, Time has been very honest and sincere about the woes he';s been having and proves this was worth backing in the first place. As there have been af ew cases on Kickstarter and pubically known, where kickstarter where funded by the hundreds of thousands for board games etc..and the people behind blow all the budget and then weren't even held accountable for it?

I feel Kickstarter should deservingly so look into allow people access to these projects allowing them to take legal action against the kickstarter, because at the moment, anyone can say they are doing this or that, get the money and then hand a half assed excuse and apology to tell you the money is gone, so am I with your money..thanks for the memories down in RIO!, release the hounds...Kickstarter should be Partially obligated to when proven to be a con or fake or downright fucking idiot blowing the money stupidly hand over there address, contact and any details to the backer that they may take legal action against them for lose of funding and damages as a collective. This would put a stop to this idea of coning or faking a project in future kick-starters.

And hey if you think your being delayed..i back the Viva-Amiga Movie some 2 years ago and it's being promised to be finished and set for a spring release 3 times including this year, but I can't really complain as I know when it arrives it's going to be amazing product and plus I was the Kickstarter Pr guy for it and created the graphics for it's presentation. but yes..heading into it's third year in production and was due out last late last year.

I agree it make no sense to support a kickstarter project if the project is not 50% finished prior to the offer it as kickstarter project. On the other side without the experience how to market a product the inventor run into problems sooner or later. A famous example: peeple watch. They sent out after a huge delay and simple forgot to follow european requirements. So the shipping was stopped by custom finally and you have had the choice to sent it back to the sender or to let them dump it. Why? because there was no "CE" sign, no regulation confirmation document, nothing!

Outside of america you have nearly no chance to invent a kickstarter project on kickstarter.com and any other website dealing with such project is not known by people so support of project is quite low anyway. So without the possibility to start projects on kickstarter it is out of interest for most european people specially if they run into the mentioned problem after product is available.

Btw. kickstarter.com works since decades on the european integration and until today there is no progress..... a shame.

That's a fantastic concept and a great idea, I hope it gets funded, he could doing snes ones next..

This will be like Pokemon , you have to catch'em all and then sell them on eBay of over inflated prices :)

TrekMD

They look cool and it is even cooler than Sega approached him to have these officially licensed.

Shadowrunner

That's really cool! I'm backing this, just need to decide which one I want  :39:  Shinobi or Sonic. . . .

TrekMD

I would have gone for the 25th Anniversary one but the lack of color doesn't appeal to me.  I'll have to see which one of the others is more to my liking.  Maybe the silver Shinobi...

Great minds think alike, that's the one I just picked  :113:
They still have a ways to go though, hopefully it gets funded.

I'm still debating between that one and the Golden Boy one!

Just a shame they don't have the proper Megadrive logo on them.
