People said that on RG too, he didn't even know who held the rights to it.

I pointed out to him that it's Atari so he's said he has contacted them.

QuoteAt around midnight (GMT) last night a flurry of activity on the Kickstarter campaign saw us sail across the finish and reach the campaign goal. Thanks to the remarkable efforts of every one of you, this book is now going to be a reality!

We couldn't be more excited and more grateful to you all. The kind messages of congratulations we have since received have really put a smile on our faces, but the reality is that all of you made this happen - so congratulations to everyone! Or, as Uridium would put it...

However, we're not ready to relax just yet, as there are still a couple of days left to run in the campaign. We're going to continue working as hard as ever to spread the word and bring more great content to the table. Remember, those stretch goals are still in sight and who knows, maybe we can even unlock some of those mystery ones!

So far this campaign has not only been a great pleasure to both of us, but it's also been a real eye opener about how much incredible passion there is all around the world for Hewson and 21st Century Entertainment games.

Once again our heart felt thanks and congratulations to you all!

:)

Colin Jones, the man behind the legendary Rockstar Ate My Hamster and Grange Hill has begun a Kickstarter campaign to remaster his classic game, Slightly Magic and, if stretch targets are met, complete the trilogy as he original intended including the unreleased sequel Slightly Spooky. The remastered version will be able to deal with things like 'colour clash', which the ZX Spectrum was famous for.

You can pre-order a copy for Ouya, PC, Mac and Linux for £5, though if you put down £7 you get a free copy of his recently released Microdot Reimagined on PC and Mac and the soundtrack thrown in.

It's a real bargain to put down £7 and get two games, plus two more if his £12k stretch target is met!

By going for Ouya as well Colin may qualify for the Free The Games Fund, which would essentially double his money, allowing him to complete the trilogy across all platforms. The price of that is that it is Ouya exclusive for six months, though Kickstarter backers still get it on all platforms I think.

Hopefully it'll succeed and we'll get to see the unreleased sequel that was done all those years ago.

PLUS - Alistair Brimble is on board to do the music again!

That is actually pretty good and I like that the game will also be available for OUYA.  I hope he gets the funding that he needs.  I'll be pledging to this!

This is just $650 away from getting funded with 6 days to go!  Pretty cool.  I also just realized these folks are in Miami!  Maybe I can go visit them!  I'm a supporter!  LOL

Edit:  It is now funded!

Unfortunately, this did not get funded but looks like it will still see release....

[font=georgia:1fzpapnj]Firstly, thank you to everyone for your support. As well as as offering to back the project, you've blogged, tweeted, facebooked and posted on forums worldwide. Your personal messages of support have been very encouraging, and have shown that there's still enough interest in Slightly to make the idea of him not returning almost unthinkable.

So even though the campaign failed, in the first few months of 2014 Slightly Magic will return as a PC/Mac/Linux/Ouya game, followed closely by iOS and Android versions. Then I'll take a look at Slightly Spooky, which I might well bring to Kickstarter as a new campaign, with a totally fabulous game demo.

Putting Slightly Magic out will be a risk for me, of course, but that seems to come with the territory these days. I'll have more news in 2014, in the meantime I hope you have peace, love and way too much fun in whichever holidays you celebrate between then and now.[/font:1fzpapnj]

The Great Craft Computer Club Kickstarter Retro Reward Giveaway

Our Kids Coding Kickstarter got off to a good start but we need more pledges if we're going to succeed.

So it's time to bring out the big guns and show how much I want this project to succeed.

To do that, I'm going to give away my entire computer and gaming collection which is basically a mini computing museum. It includes things that are going to be tough to part with, such as the machines I learned to code on. But if it helps this kids project succeed I'm fine with that.

I'm prepared to make a sacrifice and I hope you will too and back the project!

We'll pack it with children's coding guides and video tutorials to supplement the book along with news and competitions. It's your very own online tutor to help you with:

How computers, phones and tablets work
    Algorithms, programming and debugging
Internet, search results, safety and security
    Logic, sequences variables

I also want to look at the computing your children will encounter in schools e.g. Scratch, Kodu, Python and HTML5 and devices like tablets, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Makey Makey etc

Rather then clutter up the Artcade thread I thought I would post here instead. Maybe an Admin can move the last few posts from that thread into this one?

Anyway, I've backed quite a few of these now, and I'm pretty much at the point where I don't want to back any more. This isn't a shot against Tim from the Artcade project, he's been very honest and open about the process and the problems, and I completely understand.

The problem is that just about every one of these I've backed has encountered some kind of problem. From delays in the project being finished, to delays in shipping , to having to pay more money after the fact for shipping cause the creators didn't calculate it properly. These things just never seem to go smoothly, no matter how much planning they did before hand.

The Ouya is a prime example for me. I'll freely admit that my impression of it was soured before I even received it just because of how poor a job the creators did with the shipping and communication. I didn't get mine until after it was on sale in stores and their excuses just didn't cut it for me.

Another one I backed was for a game for the Dreamcast, and the Kickstarter edition was supposed to be exclusive and not available anywhere else. After being delayed for well over a year it was finally finished, and the "exclusive" edition was up on their website for anyone to buy!

I feel most people involved in these are genuine and really aren't out to screw people over, but there's also some people who start these projects and as soon as the money is in their account completely forget how it got there. I have heard of lawsuits being filed against people who didn't end up finishing the project after they had the money, but I have no idea if they were successful or not. As far as getting your money back through paypal, there's a deadline for disputes and if it's after that you're pretty much out of luck. Basically it just seems like you have to put a lot of faith into the project creator and hope for the best, and I don't think I can do that any more.

TrekMD

Sadly, some of the projects do not work out.  That's the nature of Kickstarter for better or worse.  You always take a risk.  So far, I've had issues with some projects being delayed but they've delivered.  Only one project never did and the explanation offered was satisfactory to most contributors.
