In the 70s (probably earlier too) Nintendo made some incredibly cool stuff (some of it licensed from people like MB - but lots of things were their own developments). Duck Hunt for example is a video game version of a mechanical gun game they made that projected ducks onto your wall to shoot at

....video games are only the latest thing for them - a company that started in the 1890s. The death of Gunpei Yokoi (Gameboy, Metroid - but inventor of many mechanical games back in the day) was a huge loss to the industry.
