Answers on a postcard or post in this topic please...
For the record, Alien verses Predator on the Atari Jaguar holds a Guinness World Record!

I'd probably go:

1) Mega Drive
2) Master System
3) Saturn

Crusto

1. PC Engine
2. Sega Mega Drive
3. Neo Geo
Bitches leave

Rogue Trooper

I like me cats, so Panther, Lynx and Jaguar are personal favs.

Feel Mega Drive far better name than Genesis.

Oh and always liked the Falcon-not a console, but ATARI had a better naming system for it's hardware in my eyes, than many others.Pity they did'nt handle the actual hardware anywhere near as well...

:-(

Shadowrunner

Genesis  :10:

But seriously I do prefer the name Mega Drive and also I've always really liked the name TurboGrafx 16.

Arethius_RGC

Megadrive
Jaguar (for the box and the memories)

Mega Drive was just an awesome name, just sounded so bloody cool back then.

Lynx and Jaguar were also great name for consoles, especially as Lynx had a duel meaning.

Oh and TurboGrafx deserves a mention, PC Engine sounded too much like a computer product.

PC Engine GT sounds almost like it belongs on the back of an American muscle car, like it means business and it appeals to the inner child.

In terms of literacy, I think the  'Master' System would be hard, if not impossible, to defeat.  "Yes, Master."?

Mega Drive

TurboGrafx
they just conjure up visions of powerful hardware to run your games.

Odyssey 2 - Brings to mind a second Epic Greek Adventure.
Genesis - A new beginning. For me it was a new start to video games.
Action Max - Good things are going to happen. Sadly misleading.

Liking the explanations onthinice. This is what I meant when posting the topic, why do we like the names given. Funnily enough, I had never given the MegaDrive much thought till now and agree with Laird that back then this was a much cooler name than most at the time.

Well, I won't go on about what I think of every post though it is great reading. For me, and I am a little biased, it has to be:

I remember seeing a programme about Jaguars and how they are the ultimate hunters (incidentally, the foal managed to hide long enough to survive). They are incredibly stealthy, highly intelligent and just all-round cool (as it is a retro console "cool" is an acceptable term). To name a console after such a beautiful and fascinating creature was, I felt, a winner. Did I mention I am a little biased ;)
