Regardless of the nostalgia factor, I actually
prefer the classic arcade games to the newer coin munchers.
There are exceptions but if I was in an arcade my money would go in this....

and this...................

rather than this........

or this.............

You are not going to see me disagree!!!!

Same as bud. The fact they work on 50p rather than £2 attracts me. Lol.

50p?!?!?!?

I was devastated when they went up to 20p! :)

Outrun, Space Harrier and After Burner are where most of my pocket money went - but I was terrible at all of them!

That is the classic Sega arcade era for me.

One thing I don't play in modern arcades is shooting games - far too many dirty, sticky light guns have out me off...

TL

Not to mention that when you play them you find that the gun doesn't work!

The only modern arcade game I will gladly part with my money is this:

It's only £90K new or £57K to buy second hand!

I think MOST fans of arcade stuff in general are probably also retro fans.

Arcades seem to have devolved into those REALLY FREAKING HUGE racing titles, light-gun games, and skill-games, like cranes.

And then they charge like, 2045627467 squillionty dollars per play, and you get like .00000001 seconds of actual game time.

Yeah, no thanks.

I'll take the retro games any day.

.......though, there ARE exceptions, but EVERY SINGLE FREAKING ONE OF THEM is Japan only.

I'm thinking of things like Cave's various danmaku shmups, for instance.   I have all of the 360 ports, and the roms for the older games, but I'd looooooooooove to get my hands on a real arcade unit for.... pretty much any of them.

TL

There was a Namco arcade in Manchester when we all went to Play, it was mostly full of fruit machines but they did have stuff like Dance Dance Revolution, Ridge Racer, Mario Kart, Point Blank, Terminator and some Sega racing games.

Didn't bother playing on them though, I think half of them were about £1 a go  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" />
