Only watched 1st ten mins so far dude, but i'm in awe of your games collection behind you in that vid.

:-) Personally never seen the Lynx as a 'true' 16-Bit system myself, more of a hybrid, same way i view PC Engine, having said that...systems like the Lynx and PC Engine make a mockery of the whole 'Bittage' aspect anyway as the GPU's etc so powerful and you've only to look at the stunning games the Lynx pulled off to see the power it had.

Great points about ATARI listening to focus groups, i still wonder why they went with this 'research' as they must have questioned how making it so big would effect the whole portability aspect of the machine and pushed up costs-more raw materials needed, bigger die sets etc etc.also, how under appreciated the improved battery life of the MK II was, in an age where todays systems like the 3DS and Vita still struggle with the performance to battery life hit, improvements ATARI made are not to be sniffed at.

Watch the rest of it, I promise you that you are going to PERSONALLY LOVE some of the stuff I talk about!

That is only a small part of my collection behind me BTW :3:

The Lynx has a 16-bit data bus with a 16-bit graphics chip, 16-bit sound chip and 16-bit blitter so that's enough to qualify it for me. But yes it is very similar to the PC Engine in that it's a hybrid because of the 8-bit 6502 CPU.

Rogue Trooper

Was'nt ATARI 'forced' to put up the Lynx price (by a few £'s) at 1 time, due to the value of the $ or something on the stock market? sure they did similar with the ST range, but that was due to Ram prices increasing at the time.Mind you way i'm posting tonight (missing a ? in a link, putting MD stuff in Lynx thread, i wager i could be very wrong).

It was initially very expensive as I said in the video, that was blamed on the exchange rate at the time. And the early high price in the US was because a screen supplier let Atari down and they ended up paying much more for the LCDs than they originally planned.

Rogue Trooper

I was an avid mag reader at the time of the Lynx, think i 1st saw it in that zzap 64 comsole Ker-razy feature, but i went for the sega Game Gear over it (picked up Lynx few years later), despite bing a n ATARI owner in the past (2600, 800Xl and 520STFM).Reasons were simple:

The Game Gear had Sonic+Shinobi, plus the MS converter meant i had a big range of software to choose from. The Lynx from a technical perspective just blew me away, but it so needed the software support Sega etc had.It seemed like the right hardware in the wrong hands.

It's a really good video I must say. You sure were well-prepared and explained a lot of stuff.

As always I'd argue that the Game Gear's library was not worse than that of the Lynx, but that comes down to taste in genres. :)

Thanks! Glad you liked it, I tried to be as balanced and unbiased as possible, which is hard when you are a massive Lynx fanboy like me   :8:
