If you've read any of my other posts then you'll know that most of my retro gaming stuff has been left out in the garage getting very damp for 9 years. You'll also have read that most of it has been cleaned up and tested and worked OK. Today it was the one I've been dreading trying for the almost certainty of it being FUBAR.

So I cleaned up the 3DO, the joypad port and the connector on the lead were both badly corroded and I could see corrosion on other connectors at the back of the 3DO. Still I battled on and cleaned them up. Eventually I had to plug it in. And turn it on. It lit up a power light and all the smoke stayed inside the electronic bits inside (for the uninitiated all electronic parts are filled with smoke which makes them work, if the smoke escapes then, to coin a phrase, it's game over). I put in the only game I have which is Rebel assault, and lo and behold it made a lot of noise in the disc drive but the game start screen came up.

I got the game up to starting so some buttons on the pad are working, but herein is the problem, I have no "right" on the joypad direction pad. So does anyone know anything about these pads or will I be pioneering stripping it for RVG?

I have no idea on the pad but amazed it actually even worked in the first place. :)

That makes two of us Nakamura. I was ready to put it on Ebay as not working  :-X

Don't worry, being a 3DO, you will be able to do that soon!  :3:

Well so far I have managed to chew the heads out of 4 of the 6 badly rusted screws in the controller. Looks Like another Ebay search coming up.. :-

Could just be the button contacts need cleaning. If you get it open.

dougtitchmarsh

That's what I suspect as all the other buttons are working except the right pad. I will get it open, but it may never go back together again  :113:

If you can't get it back together, try using a bead of hot glue, it will seal up the controller, but will not mark the plastic when removed.

I have broken controller casing locking tabs before. Super glue in minimal amounts along the seam works well for securing them back together, and slitting the glue seam with a razor hobby knife if you need to get it apart again works well too.

Postman came and delivered a parcel today. My brother bought me a 3DO joypad for my birthday, so my 3DO works again  :113:
