TrekMD

I like that Doom vs Doom comparison.  The Jaguar came out ahead but the overall rating was pretty close for both versions of the game.

Going to the final frontier, gaming...

The last lot of review scans from C&VG:

Shadowrunner

Anybody else notice the little box in the corner of the Wolfenstein review?
It mentions that they previously reviewed the game for the SNES and it got an 80% despite the limitations of the system while the Jag version is better then any other version yet it only got a 77%!!! WTF? Looks like they gave it a lower score just cause it didn't push the hardware which seems like a pretty stupid way to review a game! >:(

I bought and loved Jag wofie-Blisteringly fast and no censored crap like the SNES version. However part of me can see why the Jaguar version fared not as good as you might have wanted by some reviewers, it was'nt the sort of '64-Bit' game they were expecting, it was a little long in the tooth and reviewers itching for Doom, so this seemed like something of a stop-gap release, stalling for time whilst Jag Doom was done.

Yeah I suppose I can understand that thought but for me I think a good game is a good game regardless if it's pushing the hardware or not and it seems very odd to give an inferior version a better score.

I totally agree, the Jag version wipes the floor with the SNES one but they did just seem to be waiting for Doom. They really didn't like Super Cross 3D did they? Mind you it's an utterly awful game, looks great in screenshots though.

Suppose they could say the SNES version got more out of the hardware? i mean at the time, ATARI saying Jaguar was going to 'rip the guts' out of the SNES (and MD) and focus was very much 64-Bit this, custom chipset that, so seeing a much cleaner looking and faster version of a game already converted to SNES, did'nt exactly scream of pushing the hardware, more the sort of thing that'd have the hardware twiddling it's thumbs.

I'm of the school of thought that a game score should to a degree take into account just how much of the hardware's potential is being used, espically given the cost  a game is asking of you.

I'd honestly mark down any of todays games that are released bugged to hell and i'd ignore day 1 patches as game should be playable to those lacking an internet connection.

Yeah I've never had the pleasure of playing Super Cross 3D  :21:
That has to be one of the lowest review score I've ever seen!

Some reviews from Games Master magazine:

Sorry that half the Brutal Sports Football review seems to be missing, blame Rogue Trooper!  :10:

just found C+VG's review of the 3DO version:

Overall 61% Ed Lomas quoted from...'Why? that's the big question. Why did they bother making it? the game looks really dated now and it does'nt exactly push the 3DO's processor......hurry up Doom'

Think that kinda sums up feelings towards Jaguar version from the C+VG viewpoint.

Think it took 2 parcels for me to send all the pages for the AVP G.Master review if memory serves, lol.

Sending you another batch of mag pages to scan in few days, good few news pieces inc.some class April fools japes, a fake story that fooled a national newspaper good and proper, good mix of Saturn, MCD+3DO reviews, plus some misc odds n sods. Was going to send G.Masters MCD Battlecorps review, but only seem to have 1 page of that, same for a Seg mag's Dune on MCD review.

Still stacks for you to be scanning in there and more to follow.

Rogue Trooper

With recent talk of Wolfenstien not scoring too great as it was an old title/did'nt make full use of hardware, reminds me of Raiden on Jaguar, reviewers moaned at for same reasons, but then i recently saw the ACE review for SNES Raiden: 670, dismissed as formulaic stuff...nothing really special...effective time killer, little else etc.
So if reviewers felt it was old hat on the SNES, Jaguar version bound to take a hammering come review.

Rogue Trooper

Been knocking Gamestm in places of late, lol, but in their RETRO section , Jaguar Tempest 2000 did get a 2-page feature and the 'Greatest RETRO Game Ever ' award.
