Yes I'm going to Google it but thought I'd throw it in here too...
While sorting the stuff in my garage yesterday I found a Sega light gun rifle (Menacer?) but I have nothing to plug in the console. I'm assuming it needs a receiver, and also specific games. So my question is what games should I get if I find a receiver and where to find the receiver?

Yep, you need a reciever as it reads the scan lines and judges position, plugs into port 2 on MD.

Games wise? unless you have a Mega CD, your limited to T2:The Arcade Game and Body Count on cart.

Sega CD wise:

Corpse Killer.
Crime Patrol.
Snatcher.
Mad Dog Mc Cree 1+2
Who Shot Johnny Rock?

Thanks RT, luckily I have a MegaCD already setup, so now all I need are the games and a receiver. Ebay time...

Another question, will the Genesis receiver work on a Pal Megadrive console?
I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't but want to be sure as the only receivers on Ebay right now are for Genesis...

OK, found a Megadrive receiver for £4 delivered, and a 6 games Menacer game cartridge for £4 inc postage. I'll post back on whether it works, saving up for all the batteries it will need lol.

That's a bloody good question.Don't many light guns work by altering the TV image (at a rate so fast you cannot detect it) and the game registers a hit or miss depending on how bright or dark a pixel is...or something along those lines? If the game lights up a pixel higher than normal it's a hit and if it makes it darker, you've missed?.

So, not sure how it'd work as NTSC has less lines and faster refresh rate? than PAL.I know light guns won't work on 100 Hz TV sets, let alone HDTV's, so if you can find out, i'd double check before buying.

I know they work on scanline positioning at the time of triggering which is why they won't work with modern TV's which don't have scan lines. I wondered if it wouldn't matter as all the processing is being done internally, and the controller / sensor would just detect when you fired and software would do the rest maybe based on brightness of the infra red beam it catches???
I'm sure some clever people out there will know exactly how it works and let us know  :101:

But the one I have ordered is for Pal Megadrive so should be OK with that.

NTSC ones would work fine because it just reads the position on the TV, the number of scanlines makes no difference.

A quick update, the Menacer detector thingummy arrived today and the 6 game cart has arrived too. Now all I need is the batteries to test the Menacer but I just spent my last tenner on kebabs and chips D'oh!

Snack, look and enjoy! Repeat until you get some batteries or run out chips :113: If not think about it!

There are going to be some unhappy kids in my house when they find their electronics have stopped working because I robbed all the batteries for my Menacer. I personally am very happy as the Menacer worked after I fitted some batteries, removed them again and cleaned the end cap connectors and refitted them, then shook it a few times while aiming at the screen and pulling the trigger. The 6 games in one cartridge is all I have but it does at least work if a little boring. :43:

I assumed it would be pretty naff, but I've been looking for a Menacer for a while. I actually won one on eBay last year (I think) but the seller refused to post it because I won it cheap.

I'd have to say it's the worst gaming gun I ever used, so heavy and difficult to hold up for any length of time as a pistol. I will try the stock bit to turn it into a rifle at some point but don't think it will help. Now I've got to find some of the Mega CD games to try on it.
