I am sure that when we all fire up MAME we always head for the same games, so what are some obscure ones that are out there that you recommend other people should try?

Here is a good one to start with:

Ninja Baseball Batman Completed 1 Coin No Death Hardest Arcade

nakamura

Not sure how obscure it actually is but I rarely hear it mention. Tumblepop, an ace little single screen platformer.

TrekMD

I've heard of neither one of these.  We are off to a good start.  :)

Couldn't see how to link/embed youtube clips, so I will just have to mention some and others can look them up.

Bega's Battle - 1983
Gaplus - 1984
I, Robot - 1983

You just copy and paste the URL and it embeds itself (just make it's HTTP and not HTTPS)

I totally agree about I, Robot - total classic!

I don't know if it's one of the 'best', but I really like Undercover Cops. (play the Alpha Renewal version of the ROMs to have all the special moves from the JPN release)

TL

Definitely, that is another cracking game IMO.

Minerals

Undercover Cops is pretty decent, there are so many hidden gems like this available on MAME

TL

This one is not massively obscure but it was never converted to any home formats sadly and you rarely here it talked about, shame because it's a cracking game:

TrekMD

It even uses the iconic Superman music!  That's awesome!  I wonder why it wasn't ported to a home system.  This looks like it would have worked on the Lynx and the Jaguar just fine.

Licensing issues I guess, well worth firing up on MAME!

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason.

quite possibly the only decent Superman game ever made

Greyfox

Here's another classic obscure arcade gem that has a bit of history attached to it..this game was the source of inspiration and a blatant rip off that became Turrican created in 1990 by Manfred Trenz on the Atari ST and Amiga some 2 years later and deserves a mention ..go check it out, you'll won't believe how much of the concept they actually copied here..well wasn't it the norm for Rainbow Arts anyway back in those days?  :21:
