Interesting piece and highlights the influence Nintendo had over the development of Star Fox as discussed in chat last week.

Star Fox shines for me in one key area, brilliant western and eastern ideas working together.

It does blend the 2 very well. I was a massive fun of Argonaut's Star Glider 2 on the ST and Spectrum 128k, the game they originally wanted Star Fox to be like.

Never got around to seeing that, looks pretty smart.
Personally I am glad Nintendo took a strong hand in Star Fox. The game was perfectly suited for the console and even though it was linear, had extensive replay value trying to achieve 100% on each level.

Star Fox 2, more in line was what Argonaut wanted was a fine game but lacked the epic feel of the first.

Pardon my ignorance, but what was the I sight that Miyamoto brought?  What does he mean about "on rails"?

"On rails" means you cannot fly anywhere, your path through the game is fixed.

I really liked that article. Thanks for sharing!!!!

Rogue Trooper

DMA's Body Harvest on N64 was another title that changed pretty drastically once Nintendo were involved:
