Most of the 90s/00s large screen arcade games used frameless front projection TV screens via component video. Maybe the original screen died or had too much burn-in... replacements are expensive so they might have used whatever was on hand as a substitute.

I'm more amused that they cut a hole in the ceiling instead of removing the marquee topper from the cab. :D
