Virtual Jaguar 2.1.0 Released!

After what seems like an eternity... Virtual Jaguar 2.1.0 is finally out in the wild. Here's some of what's new:

 • Major improvement in DSP performance on multi-core machines
 • Gamepad support
 • Fullscreen support
 • Extra goodies for developers in Alpine mode

On the downside, some was lost because of the improvements to the DSP and so the following games currently do not work: Cybermorph, Doom, Flip Out!, and Wolfenstein 3D.

While such regressions are regrettable, in this case, the improvements all around were just too great to hold this release back any longer. We feel pretty confident that we can get those back into the compatible column in an upcoming release.

Downloads can be found at the Virtual Jaguar homepage.

Have fun!

I've actually never tried this emulator.  Should give it a spin.

I tried Virtual Jaguar 2.1.0 on my PC which was at best mid range when I got it 6 years ago so now it's a dinosaur creaking along. With that out of the way, Virtual Jaguar ran ok, straight out of the rar file I downloaded. I tried Atari Karts which worked but on my PC was a little slow but it was playable, and some fiddling may improve things.
On the downside I couldn't get my gamepad setup with VJ as it didn't recognise keypresses on the pad. I'll post a little more in a while.

I just tried Zool 2 and Pinball fantasies on Virtual Jaguar, both worked OK, on my PC both were a little slow but playable with Zool being slightly better in the speed stakes. Alien VS Predator worked too. Couldn't run Ruiner Pinball at all though.

Would be interesting to see if anybody with a faster PC can comment and for information purposes I used a game booster software to run the second tests.

Good to see these developments taking place. I hope one day it will be possible to create an all encompassing emu that will run on modern PC's.
For the record, Alien verses Predator on the Atari Jaguar holds a Guinness World Record!
