Quote from: "TrekMD"All of those Tennis games on the GG look pretty good.  Has anyone played any of them that can comment on their quality?

I have played the Master System version of Andre Agassi, which is basically the exact same game, and it was pretty good.

I also have Mega Drive version of Pete Sampras and that is good too.

Cool.  :)

My favourite tennis game ever is Super Tennis. Absolutely fantastic and the sheer range of shot placement still hasn't been bettered.

I do have to make a current gen mention for anyone that loves tennis and that is Grand Slam Tennis 2. The first was a motion plus Wii game which I have yet to try but the second a PS3/360 game which is simply amazing. It has an amazing range of shot and a truly wonderful control system that uses only the two analogue sticks. You can configure to a classic style too but the feel of the twin stick control is superior.

Good shout with Super Tennis Naka. You've just named the second best tennis game ever made. Final match tennis is the god of all tennis games, their evolution peaked with this title. Tennis games have been slowly devolving ever since.

Final Match Tennis is fantastic but Super Tennis is a better game. It simply has more range of shots but both are very similar. They actually play and look remarkably similar. Wouldn't be surprised to see if they were secretly coded together!

There is a Super NES version of Final Match called Super Final Match Tennis, strangely. It actually looks again fantastic.

Either way , I had months of entertainment out of both titles. Both superb, but FMT edged it for me, as I found it that little bit harder to master. Eventually, you could pull off some serious shots with practice. On the highest skill level it was a real challenge just to win a point, but never felt unfair. As with all tennis games though 2 player was where the real fun was.

Fair enough bud, there really is very little in it! FMT is extremely highly regarded and rightly so.  :)

Smash Tennis on the SNES is the business - 1ups the mighty Super Tennis in the pure fun stakes because of the variety of courts but mainly because it supports the multi-tap. Super Tennis has better and richer control  - it was an early release so only supports up to 2 players.

nakamura

Smash Tennis is indeed a lot of fun but it does lack the control and depth of Super and other tennis games as you said.

davyk

Yeah - I'd say get both :)

Mario Tennis on N64 and Virtua Tennis (1 or 2) on the DC are my other favourites.

nakamura

Never played and of the Mario Tennis games but I did love Virtua Tennis 1 on DC. Played it for hours. Pity the series never really got any better. You can even hit the damn ball long in open play!
