Is there a "worst conversions" thread?

Remember playing arcade games then buying the same for my home console/computer and feeling SO let down!

I was a c64 owner when I first experienced a similar feeling of disappointment. Probably with Outrun or King Fu Master. Neither were the worst games I'd ever played, but my hopes were high and often unrealistic.  Still, there were numerous naughty publishers using screenshots of 16 bit versions of the same games on the backs of 8 bit cases to give the illusion of amazing graphics. Dubious practice indeed!

I think one of the worst offenders has to be this horror, Double Dragon on the Spectrum:

I have a couple and one should be no surprise.

Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 was a total let down for me because it didn't even try to look like the arcade.

Mr. Do! for the Atari 2600 because of that stupid green bar at the bottom of the screen taking out screen space that could have been part of the "dirt."  Compared to Dig Dug, it was just disappointing.

The one I'm thinking of is Jackal: -

I purchased it for my Amstrad CPC464.....Dear Lord....

Shadowrunner

I was a big fan of the arcade game Renegade. I bought the NES version of it and boy was I let down.

nakamura

Pang on the C64.

Pang is actually a stunning conversion of the arcade game but my tiny young brain couldn't fathom that it wouldn't be as good. When I got it home I was utterly crushed.

Once over that I played it for hours. Amazing.

Here is another one for you all, this time its on the Amstrad CPC - Outrun. The game is so slow it would be quicker to get out and walk!

To be fair all the home computer versions are pretty bad. Actually I am also going to post the Amiga version too as that is equally as horrendous, this time the sound effects are the worst offender.

Here is one of the worst conversions ever on a home system:  Donkey Kong for the Intellivision.

Here is another one from the Spectrum library - Tengen's STUN Runner

Why oh why did they even attempt this on the humble Speccy?  ???

Rogue Trooper

As a C64 owner, Hard Driving-like that was ever going to work on the C64.

Roadblasters-gutted with this one, i bought based on a C+VG preview and must have played all of 5 times, forget who did the conversion, but they needed an arse kicking, C64 was capable of better...

Chase HQ-After seeing the amazing Speccy conversion, hopes were high, then dashed to pieces.

Quote from: "The Laird"They do look pretty bad! Especially Hard Drivin' that is a total joke!  :-

The really sad thing is that in fact all home versions of Hard Drivin' are a joke. The C64 one may be the worst, buteven on Lynx and Mega Drive you can count the frames while playing.^^

Oh... oh dear.

I can beat that, oh yeah...

With Mortal Kombat 3 on the Master System!!!

It's kind of sad, really. Starting off with a respectable port of part 1 the developers managed to make it worse with each of the two subsequent games.
