I have a love hate relationship with the N64! I love some of the games which are some of the best of their generation, but hate the low resolution, blurry textures and eye watering visuals on some games!

But my top 10 would have to be

Waverace 64
Goldeneye
Super Mario 64
Pilotwings 64
Perfect Dark
Blastcorps
Super Smash Bros
1080
Mario Kart 64
Banjo Kazooie

I have a love/hate relationship with the N64 too:

Love:
Robotron 64 (prefer it to Robotron X on PS)
F-Zero X (decent sequel to F-Zero and Powerdrome/STUN Runner clone)
Sin & Punishment (own it on Wii VC)
Tetrisphere (partly for its Atari Jag origins as Phear)

Hate:
Everything else!

If we're listing off interesting games, I've got mine right here.

Mace: The Dark Age - One of Atari Games's two fighting games they actually released. It's basically a cross between Mortal Kombat and Soul Edge/Soul Blade, with a little Street Fighter in there, too. Kicks the crap out of Mortal Kombat 4 any day.

Doom 64 - You know those people who keep saying Doom 3 is the third Doom game? They're lying. This is the REAL Doom 3, hiding under an assumed name. The gameplay's mostly similar as the first two games, with new graphics, a new, more atmospheric soundtrack, and a new weapon, too. Sure, the ports to the PC might be preferred, but this is still pretty great either way.

Rocket: Robot On Wheels - OK, sure, a 3D platformer on the N64 is nothing new. But this one's pretty well done. For one thing, there's a lot of focus on puzzle solving, and the game even has its own physics engine. Sure, there's still a lot of collecting involved, but there's a lot more thought to it. Like, say, cheating at a game of tic-tac-toe with a robotic chicken.

That was an interesting online experiment Nintendo did back then.

Picked up a CIB copy of Sin & Punishment recently - lovely game. I have the VC version too but couldn't get on with the controls - feels a lot better using the N64 controller.

My sister was here the other day so we played a few games of Perfect Dark.

My rank changed for the first time in over 10 years.

I'll probably be stuck on Lethal for another 10 years at least though.

Just recently a prototype Nintendo 64 cartridge containing the PAL version of Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine made its way onto eBay, selling for a massive $710. Luckily enough for us though, the new owner of this cartridge was kind enough to reach out to one of the Nintendo 64 scene groups with the aim of sharing this long lost PAL release with the community. Although the PAL version doesn't offer many differences from its US counterpart, it's nice that another piece of gaming history has been archived.

That's pretty cool.  Good that the person who won the bid was interested in sharing.  :)

There are a few N64 games that I really enjoy, which are usually written off as "kiddie" games. The first two would be Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Goemon's Great Adventure.  These are sequels to the SNES Goemon, but the first is a 3d platformer, while the 2nd goes back to its SNES roots.  Aside from the gameplay, they're really funny (in a weird sort of way).  Let's Play Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon - #1. Goemon and the Giant Peach Ship  Goemon's Great Adventure Playthrough Part 1

I also thought the two Snowboard Kids games were underrated arcade style racers.  Snowboard Kids (N64) Gameplay

And of course, Mischief Makers was another great Treasure game.  Mischief Makers - 100% Playthrough (1/5)

You can see why Nintendo really went off into getting that "kid's console" stigma when some of the best titles looked like that, though.

Snowboard Kids and Mischief Makers are ace. I actually prefer Snowboard Kids to Mario Kart 64. Haven't played Mystical Ninja yet.

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine though, is one that goes on my "boring" list.

For a console that lacked extensive third-part support, the Nintendo 64 managed to produce some great titles.  The technical limitations of the cartridge really prevented N64 games from matching the cinematic quality of PlayStation games.  But since everything was accessed from the cartridge, loading times were fast and it was not uncommon for games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time to have vast overworlds drawn and rendered in just a few seconds.  Texture filtering also greatly improved the visuals of the games; it really helped that Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars, for instance, was not a pixelated, blocky mess, but looked and ran smooth.

Anyone unhappy with their n64 picture on Modern tv's should try a composite/Svideo to hdmi converter. I took a risk and got a lenkeng 323a converter off eBay for 40 and it's great. No more blurry text or blotchy colours, just a pin sharp image. Shall be running my dreamcast through  it as well when I get a composite cable.

It's been a long while since anything got posted on this thread but I figured I'd wake up the thread with a video of 10 Best N64 Games.  Check it out.  What do you think?

I don't have an N64, but for collectors of the system this should be a cool video...
