Top computers less than £1000 in 1983

The Register has produced a graph showing the most popular 20 computers costing less than £1000 in 1983. It's pretty interesting, although the colour scheme used used is confusing.

That is an interesting (and as you say confusing) chart. It certainly ties in with what I remember of that time and the computers available. Spectrum was huge in the homes of us teens at the time and I had one, and BBC was big in the educational facilities, we had them in my secondary school and then I used them in a day release college course in 1984.
Very interesting to look back on that and remember what else was around too.

I never knew that the Dragon 32 was the second most popular home micro in the UK for some time 

I love reading facts such as that which mostly get lost in the midsts of time. It also reminds of the Amiga CD32 having been a big seller here in the UK for a short while. Iirc, it was outselling the Sega Mega-CD. More recently, the original model DS selling like crap until they released the DS Lite and some games which struck a chord such as Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training.

The CD32 software wise was outselling the other 3 CD formats (Mega CD, CD-i ,PC CD!) COMBINED! Unthinkable now.. Just a shame it never got a chance, 6 months after launch C; USA dragged the whole company down with it!
