Atari Age user Yandman has created a brand new arcade-type controller for the good 'ol Atari 7800, the Pro-Line Arcade Stick.  This is his first attempt at creating these but they look great!  The arcade stick is machined from half inch polished acrylic which gives it a very robust and quality feel, the buttons and joystick are all Sanwa and he designed the graphics for the panel and had them professionally printed and finished.

The cost of these is estimated to be £130 right now but that has not been finalized.  More details can be found at the original thread over in Atari Age:  Roll up roll up i present to you......The PRO-LINE ARCADE STICK.

That looks awesome!!! The price on the other hand is not so great but for something that looks that professional I would imagine they're very costly to make. Have to keep an eye on this.

TrekMD

Yes they are pricey but they are made of quality materials and they are handmade as well.  Yandman said it takes him about 3 days to assemble one.

For those who aren't a member of AA like myself, is there any way to get in touch with the guy making them and order one when he starts taking orders?

TrekMD

I've asked him to join us here but I will find out a way to get orders to him for those not on AA.

Cool! Thanks  :)

lovely piece of kit, but I have to say I hate the Atari Fuji representing the directionals of the stick, he should of simply used arrows or widened V shapes to the chosen direction..the rest if very authentic of an original Atari Product back in the day..so kudos for that..but again the Atari Fuji to me make it look like a cheap knock off from China..I hate to say.

a bit pricey and I'm sure if them demand was high enough on pre-order, could get these made over in Asia, without being funny, you can buy top of the line 7" tablets for the same money..for the die-hards with cash only I think.

These are being hand-made by Yandman, GF.  They are not going to be manufactured in Asia.

Yes, I as aware of that, I was saying if he used pre-order to drum up a run in production, they could become less that $130 dollars, but I gather he'd need a good couple of hundred or possible thousands to get them down, and also I've notice that rainbow strip is much wider, maybe his decal could use a slightly thinner strip too..

I wish him the best of luck, these thing deserve a chance to shine.

Only one hint: in the european community you need a WEEE compliance (dump registration) for external devices. If you do not register and pay for it then you'll must pay a fee of about 50.000 Eur. So if someone plan to ship it then it is quite dangerous from legal point of view to do it without that registration. that's the reason why many engineers quit their developments. The only way to get this to the right audience is to do it by an assembly kit.

That's interesting.  I haven't seen anything else posted about the development of these, so I wonder what'll happen with them.
