Ok here we go with the new console battle as these two 16-bit beasts lock up!

The first game we are going to look at is Rastan II

Tough choice. I like the graphics on the PC Engine but the sound on the Mega Drive gets my vote.

Mega Drive wins for me.

DreamcastRIP

An interesting contrast in visuals. The PC Engine version kinda has a more classic 'arcade-like' aesthetic whereas the Mega Drive version has a more gritty and more detailed appearance. On balance, I marginally prefer the PC Engine version's graphics for the softer tones.

As for the sound I quite like the atmospheric tune of the PC Engine version although the absence of sound effects isn't great. That said, the MD version has sound effects but I found them to be rather grating. A tie then, for me.

Overall, the PC Engine version just about gets my vote. That said, I never much liked the Rastan games anyway. Too slow and plodding for my tastes.

You pretty much captured my thoughts, I think the PCE just edges this one.

TrekMD

I like the PC Engine's visuals more than the MD but the lack of sounds is a minus.  In this instance I'm going with the visuals more, so the PC Engine also gets my vote.

Shadowrunner

For me the Mega Drive version looks and sounds much better so it get's my vote.

Wow what a cracker to start with!
j/k awful ports of an awful arcade game! The artists should be shot for some of the worst animation in videogame history!

In the end i had to go with the PC Engine port as its slightly closer to the arcade original.

I wanted to make it interesting!  :P

Let's try another game then, this time it is Sega's all-time classic Afterburner

Has to be the Megadrive port for this, as much as impressive the PCE graphics are, the Megadrive music and sound are better, has the proper screen layout, both versions are great though and probably the two best home conversions at the time.

PCE 1 - 1 MD
Rastan 2 - PCE
Afterburner 2 - MD

I'm voting for the MegaDrive on this one.  It is a more polished version of the game.

I am going with the PC Engine again.

It does a much better job of faking the scaling effects, the MD doesn't really bother, and it has far better music too IMO.

DreamcastRIP

PC Engine version for me. The MD version really struggles with the sprite scaling in some later levels. Level 8 on the MD version scrolls like an Amstrad CPC or Wii U game!!

Sound is a little better on the MD but I like the look of the PC Engine version more so I'm going with it.
