TrekMD

After watching the video, I think I prefer the MD version.  I guess this is a game I'll need to try once on my Genesis!  :)

That one didn't get many votes but let's look at another game anyway.

This time it's the classic Space Invaders!

PC Engine Longplay [171] Space Invaders +

Mega Drive Longplay [204] Space Invaders '91

Crusto

A tough one, a draw I reckon as they're not quite the same game anyway. Actually I prefer the PCE version.

I prefer the looks of the Mega Drive game but feel like I really need to get both of them at some point!

Mega Drive sneaks ahead on my score card 15-14

The Graphics Man

I like PC Engine Space Invader more; The backdrops, characters (sprite animation), intro and ending wins it for me.
Terance Williams (The Graphics Man)

TIme for another one! This time it is the Technos classic Double Dragon II: The Revenge!

Please note that the PC Engine version is a Super CD-ROM2 game.

PC Engine Longplay [034] Double Dragon II - The Revenge

Mega Drive Longplay [076] Double Dragon II: The Revenge

The Graphics Man

I never liked the arcade Sequel to Double Dragon (DD) so Mega Drive missed the mark by following the arcade exactly, its boring... If I recall correctly, the Mega Drive CD was released in 1991 in Japan so there are no excuse. PC Engine has a storyline, better animation, music and so on.
Terance Williams (The Graphics Man)

I never even knew that PCE version existed until posted this, but it definately looks like the better game so takes the win for me!

Greyfox

In fairness to the mega drive version, it has captured the arcade version at a near 97% even has the same slow down of the arcade version, the music is near perfect copy of the original, although the PC engine super cd has a pretty intro, it still remains to be seen as a port of its own version, rather than an arcade conversion that its well capable off.

So on that, the MegaDrive version has to be he winning purely on its faithfulness to the arcade original plus I love that fucking music, listening to the Arcade music now :)

TrekMD

I guess the vote on this depends on what one is looking for.  If an arcade-accurate port, then the Mega Drive wins easily.  If you're looking for something inspired by the arcade but that takes a different spin on things, the PC Engine.  I tend to prefer arcade-accuracy, so the MD wins for me.

I usually say the same and have done several times in this very thread, but I have actually played the MD game and it not very good at all so this was my main basis for choosing the PCE iteration.

+ 1 on Space Invaders here for the PC Engine. Same vote for Double Dragon II. The PC Engine CD version is very awesome and very well put together. The reason many people don't know about it is that very few were made, sadly.

Looks like we need to post new one, so here is another arcade conversion - the excellent Atomic Robokid:

PC Engine Longplay [118] Atomic Robo Kid Special

Atomic Robo-Kid Sega Mega Drive gameplay

TrekMD

Boy, these two are pretty evenly matched but I must say that I like how it sounds on the MD more than on the PC Engine.

I think I have to agree with you, very close contest though!

16-15 to the Mega Drive on my scorecard.
