I actually prefer the ST music but I guess that is because I love real chip music as opposed to mods.

I much prefered A8 and C64 music to anything i heard on ST (Samples wise, thought the ST had dreadful soundchip if i'm honest) and Amiga, who's music whilst technically fantastic, never really did it for me.

Was'nt until i became a MD owner i really got back into game music (SOR 1+2, Ecco The Dolphin, Revenge Of Shinobi, Gauntlet 4 etc).

Thought Rob Hubbard, who's work was amazing on C64, took a rapid nosedive on Amiga and MD, seems like when he left to work for E.A in the states, his talent just dried up.

See I like the ST sound chip, basically the same as the 128k Spectrum which I had owned previously but I didn't care. I never liked the synth sound of the SID chip, it just didn't do it for me. Likewise with the Amiga, it's all MOD music and I am just not a fan of that.

The POKEY and AY/YM are 2 of my favourite sound chips along with the FM chip in the MD and Mikey in the Lynx.

Jet Set Willy on A8, along with Panther, Red Max, Ninja and Warhawk, just superb.

C64? far too many, but the EPICS like Driller (22 mins?), Darkside, Platoon, Turbo Out Run, Rastan, Kentillia, Master Of Magic, W.A.R, Knuckle Busters, Tetris, just mind blowing.

The SID chip was just such an  amazing sound chip for an 8 Bit Micro.MD chip takes a lot of 'flak' next to the SNES chip, but it was older and in right hands, more than capable, Matey behind Revenge Of Shinobi, SOR 2 etc actually had the chip installed in his sound studio and SOR 1 music came about after he'd been clubbing in the 'village' of London here in UK.

Let's look at another game then, Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge by Gremlin:

I prefer the Amiga version of Lotus, but some of that may be down to what I'm used to, as I had Lotus on the Amiga first (then got the ST version years later) - it's still an awesome game on both systems, and the music for Lotus is perfectly acceptable on the ST version.

Yeah easily the Amiga version for me, the music is a class ahead, just listen when the drumbeats and synthesized music kicks in, it's like 8-bit vs 16-bit in music class, sorry if you like chip tune, but it really sounds outdated next to the Amiga version.
Game wise it's pretty identical though.

I would play either version. I like the Amiga for sound.

I love this game, played it loads back in the day when I bought it on a compilation with Combo Racer and Suzuki GP.

Usually I prefer a classic chiptune but even I can't deny the Amiga wins this one.

Yeah it looks great on either system but like most already stated the Amiga version is a winner purely for the audio.

A perfectly fair point. Just the same as some people prefer Iceland economy burgers* to Waitrose Aberdeen Angus grill steaks.

Graphically both games look identical I think so it just comes down to the music.

I like both versions actually but I think the Amiga wins out.

Dynamo? The Amiga version is horribly slow. You can see it in the video.

I played both and I preferred the ST. Amiga version is pretty much unplayable. Prefer the ST music too.

The game isn't great though. Way too hard and no continues.

AmigaJay

Yeah Codemasters never did release any proper decent amiga/st games more like upgraded 8bit style games.
The ST version does run faster, though the Amiga looks smoother esp running and jumping up, someone said the 60hz pal amiga version had a bug that made it play at standard 50hz so could be a reason why it plays slower.
Music wise, no surprise the Amiga's is a lot better, though its still not very good music anyway....
So if I had to play a version it would be the ST version ...with the sound down!
