Quote from: "Shadowrunner"Some really cool looking games in that video. I imagine finding a NTSC version is pretty hard though. What exactly is the story on the CD32 in North America? I thought I read that it wasn't released in the US because of copyright but they did release it in limited numbers in Canada. Is that correct?

The CD32 is multi-region I believe, the console has a region select in the bios I think. So technically there isn't any NTSC games.

I heard that the machine was all ready for the North American release when Commodore went bust and there was loads of units stuck in a warehouse somewhere. I heard something about a number making it into Canada too.

Just checked out Wikipedia and according to them it was released in Canada but a patent lawsuit kept it out of the US. Also they too mention a warehouse full of units meant for the US. If they are multi region though I guess any console would do with a power convertor.

I've seen those vids a couple of times, I think it's a nice review explaining how it can be upgraded.

Sorry to hear that zapiy, seriusly take a look on eBay UK, that's a paradise for the CD32. On eBay Spain there are just five auctions for items for this console and I'm not joking!!

@Shadowrunner:
I read that you can change the region of the game (not the video output) starting the console with a mouse plugged and pressing both buttons but I'm sure somebody will tell you better.

Nice vids' that German? Bloke had a strangely relaxing voice, makes a change from a whiny yank!

Alberto...the CD32 had the same 2mb ram as the A1200.
And yes Frontier is jerky on anything less than powerful Amiga or PC.
Those hdds don't yet work in the cd32 though I think their are people trying to either replace the cd drive and boot straight from the hdd, but there's lots of modding involved, otherwise you still need a sx1/32 to attach the hdd to.
Best to just stick to cd games for the cd32 or get an A1200 and cf hdd for disk games.

There is actually a couple of NTSC only games that are probably hard to get hold of, one being Diggers, the other Oscar, both being bundled with the console in the UK, but had a retail release overseas in cardboard cases.

Edit found the NTSC Diggers box

Yeah after reading more they mention that mouse trick but even doing that if you try using a pal system on a ntsc tv the picture will be black and white.  Guess that means if I ever want one I have to find one of the ntsc consoles, I can just imagine what they go for on ebay!

Don't you have TV's over there that can recieve both signals? On my TV I can just go into the menu and select NTSC so I can play my US 2600 games properly.

Or use it with a monitor perhaps?

Shadowrunner

They do make them but I don't think they're very common. I've never had a tv that had that option anyway.  To be honest I've never thought to look for one, maybe somebody else on here has a better idea.

AmigaJay

Well it wouldn't be possible on a standard US tv as they use 525 scanlines vs 625 pal tvs, so whilst we can reduce and play ntsc games , its not possible for them to increase without a compatible tv.

Oh yeah I understand that but I just wondered if that had TV's there that have both.

Always wanted an Amiga CD32. Great info! I will probably never own one but it is nice to think about.

Thanks for the input, I read too many things about Amiga computers and I'm a bit confused sometimes!  :-

Guys, I received today the CD32 and I'm sad to say that it is not working...

The disc spins and the lens sounds lke trying to read but it doesn't read the CDs. I realized that the console I received doesn't have any screws, ANY OF THEM!!!! WTF!!! :o

Also the controller has the D-pad loose and it rotates, is this normal?? I also realized that it misses a couple of screws too...

I wrote the seller and I'm waiting for a response, I hope he gives me a solution, I'm really angry at the moment as it wasn't a bargain. >:(

BTW, this is the seller and the console I bought:

May any of you tell me who is a reputable seller for Amiga in general and CD32 in particular? I would like to avoid this situations as much as possible.

I will let you know what he says but I wouldn't recommend this seller.
