Having bought a new power supply, pad and aerial lead, I plugged in my SNES to find it no longer works. How do I open it up, and any common faults anyone knows of when no power light comes on.

Blown fuse probably. You can get a new one here (minor soldering required).

To open the SNES you'll need a 4.5mm gamebit. I recommend the ones from Rewind Bits

Also, make sure to take note of what goes where when disassembling it.

Thanks Vyothric, ordered both from Ebay so will be able to pull the SNES apart next week. I've done a fair bit of tinkering (xbox mods, PC repairs and an engineer by trade) so I should be able to get it back together  ;D

I might have posted this before but I had my fuse replaced (by a guy from work) with a standard type so I could replace it myself in the future. Saves any further soldering.
The fuse holder just came from a standard plug. I think a box of 8 fuses were £5 but 2 years on I've never needed another!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Got the screwdriver bits and fuse and set about it tonight. SNES is now working but my Mario Allstars cart which came with it is defunct (worried me when I switched it on had life but just a black screen but another cart worked I only have the two though )

Have you cleaned the cartridge pins?

Also, Mario All-Stars would have a battery in it for saves I think. Maybe it's leaked or something. You'd need the 3.8mm gamebit to open the cartridge though.

I just picked up a 3.mm gamebit awhile back. Then discovered that Genesis/Mega Drive games are different also and need another type of bit.

also, I recall that snes is ac out and sega are dc out, make sure you changes settings on your meter to test this properly and not throw out a working PSU!
