So, I play a lot of Genesis/Megadrive games. Which would obviously mean I come into contact with a lot of Genesis/Megadrive music. And I've noticed a pattern. See, pretty much every game for the Genesis/Megadrive (Yes, I'm going to keep referring to it like that) that was made in Britain or Europe shared the same composer.

The good news is that composer was really, really good at his job.

His name's Matt Furniss. I know he's done some stuff on the Amiga, but I most know him for his work on the Genesis/Megadrive.

Here's some of his work on Mortal Kombat 2. Personally, I think it sounds better than the arcade version.

This game wasn't so great, but I still love the music.

Part of the reason I enjoy this guy's work so much is that he's, in my own opinion, anyway, one of the best Western composers for the Genesis/Megadrive. I mean, when you got somebody Japanese involved, you usually got something great out of it, but if you got somebody who wasn't doing music, you'd probably end up with something more like this:

My question to you guys is, what else is there to know about him? What other games has he done music for? Does he still work in the industry? And how did he end up working on such a huge number of games?

There is actually some Matt Furniss stuff on the music player, I am a big fan.

He did lots of music for the Spectrum and ST too, he seemed to really like to work with Yamaha sound chips. I don't believe he is still in the industry.

Listen to the Pit-Fighter tune on the retro player >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Greyfox

another classic from Matt was the title tune to the Amiga version of Shadow Warriors, this plays for the first 2min and 19 seconds.. so please enjoy, and the game itself is brilliant too..:)

That is pretty much the same music as the ST version, he lots of work for Teque.

Its good to know he is still in the industry even if he does work for the evil Sony and systems no longer use chip music :(
