:- I like the mini dragon at the end. How many challengers does Popeye face?

TL

Yes Trek, it's a Popeye wrestling game!  :o

No idea ice, you would have to watch the whole playthrough.

Rogue Trooper

Was'nt just the 2600 Gamestm's 'Conversion catastrophe' writer seemed to have unrealistic expectations from.

The Philips videopac version of Popeye featured.

They slag it for it's visuals (blocky, Olive looking like she's being sick on the floor, looking nothing like coin-op etc) and seemingly little else.

Maybe said writer has no clue of what system capabilities are and only knows how to be negative.

Hard to call as on the 1 hand, writer is never named, yet on other, when looking at the various times the 2600 versions of games are featured (Zaxxon, Tempest etc) writer makes it clear the hardware could'nt dream of handling the visuals, yet slags off the visuals any way.

*Oh and they say Nes is machine you should have played Popeye on.

Now that I've played the NES version of Popeye, I can say that it is a very good adaptation of the game.  I was pleasantly surprised by it.  :)

Popeye 2 (Alternative) on C64 at least got a mauling at review.

Zzap 64 described it as a medicore platforms/ladders game made worse by things like the falling objects moving so fast you've no chance to avoid them+ you can get blown up by bombs that are'nt even on the same screen.

Did'nt sound like fun.

I never knew about Popeye 2. Seems like the arcade conversion is the only one that ever gets mentioned.

TL

There is also a Popeye 2 game for the Nintendo Game Boy too:

TrekMD

That could have been called Super Popeye World!

There is a GBA Popeye game too:

What a neat idea, turn a platform game into a racer.  8)

Looks like the reviewer enjoyed the game, even if it is clear he does not have the taste buds for spinach!  LOL
