Think of it as a challenge.  People make computers in all sorts of shapes just to see if it can be done.  I've seen them shaped like R2-D2, Star Trek devices, dragons, etc.  They can be pretty ingenious.

Yes, I believe it is an actual 2600 shell.  Let's hope it was a dead one.

I like to look at systems that have had some kind of mod work done, but then there is the other part of me that sees the original system being changed for all time.

Let's do some quick math to figure out how much more processing power we have compared to the original:

* Atari 2600 (1982): MOS 6507 Processor, 1 thread @ 1.19 MHz
* Custom Atari 2600 PC (2012): Intel Core i7 2600S Processor, 8 threads @ 3.4 GHZ

3.4GHz CPU... but does it have Blast Processing?
