Console Compulsive

Games developers have always come up with weird and wonderful accessories during their time but none that I have come across during my frequent internet rambles are as strange as this item that has recently cropped up. The Nintendo Knitting Machine accessory for the NES.

Can anyone find any other strange accessories as odd as this?

Did you miss THIS topic just below yours?  ???

DOH! *facepalm*, I did completely miss it! But no reason why others can't add more curiosities. Consider it a complimentary topic. lol

Here is another one - the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis Activator:

It's an early attempt at Kinnect, a big plastic circle that you stand in and it maps your movements. Well it's supposed to anyway. It didn't work very well and was expensive so nobody bought them.

I love they way the marketing for it includes a well muscled martial arts expert who would, in all likelyhood, not be the slightest bit interested in buying one as opposed to the real consumer who would very probably be a pasty looking twelve year old with no intention of being a martial artist but just wanted something cool to show off to his mates.  :P

Sega was always thinking ahead. Wonder whatever became of the Sega VR headset?

I have played on it! Several times!

It's really cool and works better than I expected it too. The headset is quite heavy but is comfy to wear and easy to get in position. There is only 1 game that works with it - Missile Command 3D in VR mode. Adds a whole new experience to an already very impressive game. The effect works brilliantly and didn't make me feel sick at all.

Very cool! I remember reading about this in magazines back in the day.
Any idea how many exist?

I'm jealous!  I'd love to experience that.  Maybe I can go to CGE next year and see if there is one there to try out.

2 fully working ones, that blue one and a red and black one that is in the US. There are also a load of non working mock-ups.

Thanks! For me the video was hard to hear in spots but did they mention someone working on another title?

There is another game that uses it but only one person has it sadly and it only works with the VR Helmet anyway.
