after 8 years in home-brew development and ups and downs, BlackMesa has finally arrived into the wild, if you don't know what Black Mesa is..

(formerly Black Mesa: Source) is a Half-Life 2 total conversion remaking of Valve Software's award-winning PC game, Half-Life.

Utilizing the Source engine, Black Mesa will reintroduce the player as Doctor Gordon Freeman, along with the original cast of memorable characters and environments seen in Half-Life. Black Mesa was built and founded on the basis that Half-Life: Source didn't fully live up to the potential of a Source engine port of Half-Life. As such, Black Mesa was founded to fully reconstruct the Half-Life universe utilizing Source to its fullest potential in terms of art detail, level sizes and code features. It should be noted that the project is being built from the ground up and is not a simple port of Half Life maps and models into the Source Engine. The idea is to remake the storyline used in Half Life into a new polished Source Engine version with new models, maps, soundtrack, voice acting and textures.

This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source to play - only a copy of any Source Engine game installed on Steam. For more details, check the System Requirements.

The Game was completed on the 7th of September 2012 for distribution and not only is it the full game but they have bungled the rearranged soundtrack and all for free, which is utterly incredible for what thy have done here..

so get your asses over to http://release.blackmesasource.com/#/home

Yeah you do :( because valve have sponsored this product and have insisted it run under their service and only right it is their game, secondly you need to download via there steam under "Tools" sdk(2007) engine release in order to run it.

I'll be installing 2moro so I'll give a complete low down on it then, but I have to say playing half life again in hd is really gonna be good!!

Vyothric

Well if you need steam then I won't be playing it.

You sure HD is the term you're looking for? I played the original recently in 1600x1200  :P

Look at the screenhot comparisons on the site and you'll see what I'm talking about  8)

Vyothric

I just meant HD = high definition = resolution.

Many thanks for the heads-up on this, Greyfox.

I started downloading the 3.1GB worth of files via one of the listed hosts within Europe and was getting approx. 35kB/s d/l speed... so tried the listed torrent instead. Now getting over 500kB/s.  :)
