If we're just talking 8-bit games then there's really not much in it.

Darkwing Duck, Mega Man, Rescue Rangers vs Castlevania, Contra, Crisis Force, Bucky O'Hare......

At first I though Capcom win this no problem and then I started to remember that Konami did Gyruss, Frogger, Scramble, Super Cobra, Pooyan, Parodius, Twinbee, Amidar, Blades Of Steel and Time Pilot on the 8-bit machines.

When I think of Capcom's best games it's most 16-bit stuff so I have actually changed my vote to Konami. I really can't think of that many great 8-bit games by Capcom.

I would take Konami games easily, they had Castlevania series, Jackal and the good sports games of the time with Double Dribble and Blades of Steel.

I'm saying too close to call.  Both of them made games that I enjoy a lot.

Going to the final frontier, gaming...

Capcom gets my vote, just for Street Fighter 2. I cant remember another game that has zapped up so much of my time.

This one is way too close to call if we're just talking 8-bit. For Konami you have Castlevania, Contra, Gradius/Salamander/Lifeforce and Capcom has The Mega Man series, Ghosts N' Goblins, Bionic Commando. I don't know I can't decide they both were powerhouses back then.

Come to think of it I'm not sure I could pick a winner even if 16-bit was included either.

A very close call for me but I went with Capcom. The Mega Man games, The Disney licenced stuff, Strider and Mighty Final Fight really do it for me.

These 2 videos really show some of Konami's best work on the 8-bit systems:

If this was 16 bit or later I would have chosen Konami for all the great Castlevania games. I'm not as big a fan of the 8 bit versions of that series though, and I love Strider on the NES so Capcom got my vote.

I had to side with Capcom.  They had a slew of Disney-licensed games, such as Duck Tales and Darkwing Duck.  The inimitable Bionic Commando, the whimsical Little Nemo.  Six spectacular Mega Man games, two of which are regularly ranked among the top ten best games for the console.  Gun.Smoke, Ghosts n' Goblins, Gargoyle's Quest II, Legendary Wings.  Definitely a very strong lineup.  Konami wasn't lacking in quality games, either.
