Did you prime this first one straight spray?

Yeah I primed it mate.

Stripped the labels off. Preserving them.
Washed in warm soapy water.
Sanded with 1200 grit paper.
2 coats of primer.
3 coats of satin black on the case and lid.
finished the buttons with a bit of red acrylic then a spray varnish.

Cheers guys. I'm going to stick the labels back on tomorrow. I managed to save the Lid ologo, the serial number and the foil info sticker.
Still looks pretty good, I'm happy with it I think.

That Game Boy is actually a phone cover lol. I moved a few things before taking the pic too, but this Nintendo mole slipped through!

There are places that sell replacement shells, if you'd prefer not to go the painting route.

I just wanted to vouch for this and say that's what I did with my white Dreamcast (I've got a Sega Sports one as well, but being in the U.S. they're a cheap pick up).  The after market cases were sold in the same colors as the alternate colored DC controllers, so if you want a matching console it's easy to do (In my case, I have one of the smoke colored ones that also matches my This Is Cool Saturn).  Here's an example of a case with matching controller:
