Can't a java player not be installed to can play the various old skool formats like Sid, mod, sc68 file types, I will look into it and post my findings

well, there's good news and bad news so far, I've only really been able to link a few sites, apparently, allot of websites using jave player are hardwired or create exclusively for there URL, but I did find a few that could be promising if coding is good on your behalf
 one here : MikMod for Java : http://jmikmod.shlomifish.org/  is able to playback Amiga mods and various other mod formats, but these music files I think would have to be fetched from server space on your host inorder to work.

another I found here ..looks more promising though : http://javamod.en.softonic.com/  this one plays a llot of formats so this could be a option you could take..including Sid files etc..maybe contacting the dev, he might add other formats to this project if you ask him nicely

Nice one fella, i will look at those more indepth from home.. I would say i favor the MP3 system as that will be compressed and save file space. Cheers bud.
